I hit with heavy topspin on the forehand side and spin the shiite out of my second serve.

Anyone got any string suggestions for heavy spin?

I've tried Big Banger with some other crap running the opposite direction. It was meh for me.

TIA

I'm scared to use most poly strings because people say they go dead so quickly. Plus, I'm starting to get tennis elbow as I get old. Two popular ones on the Tennis Warehouse boards are Weisscannon Silverstring and Signum Pro Poly Plasma. Problem is, you probably have to buy them online, because I doubt most local shops would have them. I really like the Weisscannon.

I know a guy who likes Head Rip Control. This dude has a thread on its spin potential.

If you want something softer on the arm, I like Wilson NXT from the multifilaments department.

Try Luxilon in the mains and then just any ole' 16 gauge synthetic gut for the crosses.

What do you mean "go dead"?

I used prince synthetic gut 16 or 17 in high school, and I broke a set of strings every 3 days. Not exaggerating.

Now I've got two racquets, the first with factory strings from head. I've had this racquet for two years and the strings still haven't broken. And another that my brother strung...I think it's a combo with poly in the mains. It's been over 6 months and they haven't broken.

I realize the allure of polys is that they are kind of "dead" to begin with and allow you to take heavy cuts at the ball. The knock I have read on most of the Luxilon strings is they are amazing for like four hours, then suffer a massive tension drop. Fine if you are a pro who can pay for a ton of restringing, but not a rec player.

The physics of this dont' even make any sense. A tension drop would require that the strings stretched from their original form. Clearly, they don't do that.

Poly in the mains, a good synthetic in the crosses...
I like Pro Hurricane or Big Banger rough, and NXT Tour(16).

You could try all Code Red (Technifibre) or something too, only like 10 bucks.

if you're a 4.5 or lower...it honestly wont make a huge difference for you either way; a good synthetic at the right tension will feel better

This will help to impart more spin?

Hybrid setup will just just feel better...youll get the spin you want without it being so demanding. its pretty common fwiw.

If your gung ho on getting the topspin, just go all Big Banger...but its gonna hurt unless string it 5 lbs+ looser than normal (less control). Try the code red, or even prince poly spin 3d, good for the price.

Eta: You could do like a 17 gauge ALU power rough (its grey) might help the arm out a little.

Damn, Bobby Ray. I'm now convinced that you are a player. You didn't just start playing this game yesterday. What's your story?

Good high school player. Won HS states in WV (AA...not as impressive as it sounds). Could have played college but not like SEC-level college. My serve wasn't good enough. I was a bit of an athletic late bloomer and it wasn't until around 16-17 that I figured out that I could move really really well. That, coupled with good and consistent groundstrokes did really well for me in HS. In hindsight, I should have made improving my serve my singular purpose. I was content just to kick it into their backhand every single point. So while my movement raised my tennis ceiling up several notches, my serve just lowered it right back down.

Anyway, so I went to UT -- where it's very unlikely that I ever could have played top six -- and decided to just be a college student. Just been hacking around ever since.

That sounds remarkably like me. Won 3A in LA and turned down some offers to play smaller league college stuff and turned itndown to go drink at LSU. Was too small and kind of a clay court specialist.

Quit tennis until my junior year a bought a racket after watching Becker win his first Wimbledon. Won some state rankings tourney in BR beatin 3 of the top 10 guys in LA along the way. Senior year, I used a connection to try to walk on at LSU team and beat the #6 guy 7-5 in the third. I got a "thanks, is that all youngot with only one year to play" from the coach.

I usually hit my ball flat, so the Luxilon Alu Power Big Banger works for me. 16g.

Have you tried a luxilon thinner gage? it may not last as long, but it will give you lots of spin.

School size. In WV, the biggest schools were AAA.

In tennis, they only broke it down into two categories: AAA and AA-A. But the single A schools didn't have anybody worth a crap anyway (well, with some exceptions), so it wasn't really a big deal that single A got lumped in with double A.
