Anyway to get a refund on airline ticket

I booked a flight for me and a friend using my credit card. He had to bail because of work. He has no problem paying me if I cant get refund or travel voucher issued to me. Was wondering if there is anyway around the airline policy.

They will not refund, but give you credit...then most have $150.00 change fee when you want to use it in the future....

Changing the flight is (most of the time) a standard $150 plus the difference in the cost of the ticket. It's possible you could come out ahead if you book a cheaper flight though.

You're still out $150 no matter which way you slice it...
#1 it depends on the airline, each has their own cancellation policy.
#2 assuming it is one of the remaining legacy carriers (Delta, United, US Airways, American) it'll be about $150 with the remaining airfare being issued as a credit to that airline. The credit can only be used by the ticketed traveler and must be used within one year of the cancellation.

Yep. Some airlines make it tougher too, they'd rather just pocket the cash. I had to cancel a ticket on American last year and it was a situation where I wound up with $76 credit even after changing the flight. To use the credit though I had to go to a physical AA desk at an airport and book the ticket in person. Pointless.

I'm actually in the same position you are in. The only thing is, they are requiring that the ticket be used by the original person it was intended for. Even though my credit card and name is on everything else, the original ticket was for a friend and now she is the only one who can use it. Worked out ok in the end but still sucked.

No, but if I bought you a gift, I would assume that when you returned it, the credit could be used for anyone.

It is possible if you can sweet talk. My buddy got his ticket refunded after his old lady split and left him with the bill. Ticket was booked thru orbitz. He begged and begged and worked his way up thru phone calls.
