Spoiler Alert if you haven't seen all of Season 2

LINK

quote:

"He wanted Shane to knock Rick's gun out of his hand, then they'd wrestle, Rick would stab Shane, and Shane would reanimate as a zombie, as we saw. Here's where it differs. Rick would grab Shane's gun, intent on killing the zombie and it would click. Click. Click. No bullets. The idea was that Shane had never intended to kill Rick at all, but had brought Rick out into the woods to kill him. Jon Bernthal is convinced that Shane knew he was a cancer to the group and that he had to go. He just wanted Carl and Lori to be safe and for Rick to man up and take the role he was supposed to take. He said he truly believes that Shane was never as heartless as he wanted to appear that he was, and that's what makes him so entertaining to watch."

There is a little bit of pronoun confusion there. But it seems he is saying that Shane was basically on a suicide mission for the good of the group I'm assuming. That would have been a cool twist.

That would have been weak. Shane was a alpha dog, shortcomings and all.

Not to be a cynic, but for me that would've been a stupid twist. No one was more about self preservation than Shane, and he went out of his way several times to show that he would've been a better leader than Rick after Z Day, that Lori would've been better protected with him vs. Rick. Plus, he was obsessed/in love with Lori.

It would've seemed way out of character (for me) to see him suddenly have this suicidal/benevolent moment.

I don't know if it would've been "way out of character," but it's not something Shane would've most likely done. I wouldn't have liked that twist either.

Also, if this thread goes any longer than a couple pages, I predict a spoiler argument.

I like the way they did it. The other scene seems really contrived and silly to me. If he felt like he was a cancer and had to go, he just would have left.

I'm not interested in any twists that don't involve Lori dying a slow and painful death.

Can't wait till the fall and season 3 to start.

FWIW: should have built a moat around the farm.

-She's a terrible mother
-She's a terrible wife
-She's manipulative as hell
-She's clueless to how things work in a Zombie Apocalypse
-She doesn't stay in the kitchen

The best example I can give is how during Season 2 she tries to lead Rick into killing Shane the entire Season. She pushes Shane over the edge during their final conversation with the whole I don't know who this baby is for. Then she treats Rick like some monster when he actually kills Shane. Plus she never knows where the frick Carl is. She needs to get eaten, not bitten. If she turned she would probably still find ways to screw shite up.

It's not what could've been since Bernthal doesn't write for the show and it's just and idea he had for his character.

It would've sucked anyway. His character wasn't this noble. He went out properly.

This is the theory I've had all along. Shane wanted Rick to do what was right and never intended on killing Rick to begin with.

If you go back and watch the first season, Shane wasn't a bad guy. Other than the scene where he held the scope on Rick in the woods (and I guess the scene when he drunkenly tried bang Lori again), there was no indication of Shane being a bad guy until he killed Otis.

As he sincerely said to Rick in season 2, he was confused because the world had gone mad. He did what was right by taking in his best friend's family and mistakenly fell in love in the process. And Lori is the reason that dude snapped. He truly thought Rick was dead and when he showed up for the first time in season 1, Lori completely turned on Shane and that played a huge role in Shane's sudden transformation.

this.

Shane is the epitomy of an alpha male in a situation where alpha males would rule.

no way an alpha male let's a male who he thinks is weaker than him, kill him, for the betterment of the group.

that's just dumb. plus Carl shot him in the books.
