Barry Bonds is publicly referring to himself as a convicted felon these days, and he's quick to point out that conviction was never for steroid use.

He appealed his obstruction of justice conviction from April 2011 on one count of giving an evasive answer to a 2003 grand jury investigating illegal steroids distribution.

"I went through the system. And that's what it is," Bond said Monday, attending the Diamondbacks-Giants while doing charity work through Big Brothers and Sisters of the Bay Area. "And that's what I got. I went through the system. I'm in an appeal process right now. I was never convicted of steroids."

The slugger said he met recently with Giants president and CEO Larry Baer about working for the club in some capacity, and Bonds has a personal services contract the Giants have said could go into effect once his legal proceedings were in the past.

referring to him as a convicted felon is a bit strong. the moniker connotes murder, rape, armed robber, etc. even tho it's accurate. i lost all respect for him and his accomplishments (along with others that did the same thing) but i tend to refer to him as a cheater, not a thug. if i was a giant exec, i wouldn't hire him for shite.

Don't think I would be a fan of a move that brought Bonds in in an official role. He was never known as a good locker room guy. Maybe he could help out in the minors. Will Clark does a lot of work with the Giants but in a pro bono capacity.

How can he and the other steroid users from the pre-2003 era be cheaters when MLB had no PED testing and enforcement program back then? He's no more of a cheater than Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and all the other amphetamine-era players are. The cheaters are the players who contunued to use steroids after 2003, like Manny Ramirez and Ryan Braun.

Barry made a appearance on the giants broadcast yesterday

He was funny, light hearted, made fun of himself and came across as someone I would enjoy chilling with shockingly

I was surprised at how entertaining he was

That seems to be the go-to job for ex-players, I know Griffey travels to all the Mariners affiliates to mentor the young guys. Don't see Bonds in that position

Cheater? lolz

Everybody just mad that other players were on roids too and they STILL weren't anywhere close to being as good as Bonds.

Barry = GOAT

I have wondered where ole Will has gone. When I grew up, he lived in my neighborhood and (CSB I know) he looked for me when I went 'missing' on Halloween one year. He was great for the Rangers, one of my favorite players from those 90's teams.

On the Bond issue, maybe as a 'consultant' you know, not officially hired by the team, but still helping out the team in some role.

What about the hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals? How has McGwire rehabilitated himself such that he deserves a job in baseball?
