The Orioles, building on their early season momentum, are close to signing center fielder Adam Jones to a club-record contract extension, major-league sources say.

The deal, according to one source, will be “well north” of the two largest deals in team history – Miguel Tejada’s six-year, $72 million free-agent deal and Nick Markakis’ six-year, $66.1 million extension.

Jones, 26, is eligible for free agency after next season. He has emerged as a leader, offensive centerpiece and defensive stalwart for the Orioles, who entered Friday with a 28-17 record, the best in the American League.

So happy about this news. Jones has been a fricking beast for the O's this season and the sky's the limit on how good he can be. Now, they just need to lock up Wieters and the future will be set.

Teams should have been smart and traded for him at the deadline last year

I'm guessing he's starting to live up to his potential? I never hear anything about him or the O's for that matter.

Adam "Not Pac-Man" Jones is a beast. Sign Wieters as well and if Machado pans out, you've built your team from the inside out. If not, you still have Hardy.

He has 14 HRs with a .311 BA and .958 OPS this year. Plus his glove has been excellent at CF and he's won multiple games with game-winning HRs in extra innings this year.

What’s ironic is that the failure to trade Jones is partly what got MacPhail fired. The biggest knock on him was that he held on to assets too long and couldn’t trade them for useable assets. He couldn’t pull the trigger on a deal because he couldn’t part with a player on the off-chance the player lived up to potential. His inability to make a big decision worked out in the Orioles’ favor.

Hell yea, he is finally putting it together. Him Markakis and Weiters are really putting it on. Gonna be fun once the arms come around and Machado gets to the bigs.

Machado's power still hasn't developed at all. He's still really young though.

Word is Britton should be back up in the next month. Who gets bumped down to AAA? Matusz looks like he figured it out. Hammel is pitching well and so is Chen. I'm thinking Tommy goes bye bye.

Dana Eveland gets sent down to AAA and Hunter moves to the bullpen.

I didn't realize Dana was still on the active roster. Only guys in the pen you hear about are Strop (Beast) O'day (Beast) and Johnson (Whole 'nother level)
