Obama’s war on coal hits your electric bill, looks like Obama kept one promise

LINK

quote:

Obama’s War on Coal has already taken a remarkable toll on coal-fired power plants in America.

Last week the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a shocking drop in power sector coal consumption in the first quarter of 2012. Coal-fired power plants are now generating just 36 percent of U.S. electricity, versus 44.6 percent just one year ago.

quote:

Last week PJM Interconnection, the company that operates the electric grid for 13 states (Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia) held its 2015 capacity auction. These are the first real, market prices that take Obama’s most recent anti-coal regulations into account, and they prove that he is keeping his 2008 campaign promise to make electricity prices “necessarily skyrocket.”

The market-clearing price for new 2015 capacity – almost all natural gas – was $136 per megawatt. That’s eight times higher than the price for 2012, which was just $16 per megawatt. In the mid-Atlantic area covering New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and DC the new price is $167 per megawatt. For the northern Ohio territory served by FirstEnergy, the price is a shocking $357 per megawatt.

quote:

These are not computer models or projections or estimates. These are the actual prices that electric distributors have agreed to pay for new capacity. The costs will be passed on to consumers at the retail level.

House Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.) aptly explained: “The PJM auction forecasts a dim future where Americans will be paying more to keep the lights on. We are seeing more and more coal plants fall victim to EPA’s destructive regulatory agenda, and as a result, we are seeing more job losses and higher electricity prices.”

The only thing that can stop this massive price hike now is an all-out effort to end Obama’s War on Coal and repeal this destructive regulatory agenda.

The Senate will have a critical opportunity to do just that when it votes on stopping Obama’s most expensive anti-coal regulation sometime in the next couple of weeks. The vote is on the Inhofe Resolution, S.J. Res 37, to overturn the so-called Utility MACT rule, which the EPA itself acknowledges is its most expensive rule ever.

This vote is protected from filibuster, and it will take just 51 votes to send a clear message to Obama that his War on Coal must end.

This administration won't be satisfied until we are back in the stone age!

That is only the tip of the iceberg if he gets four more years in office.

If you think rising gas prices are bad for the economy wait till electricity bills go up 8 fold by 2015. We will look like North Korea. I have no doubt that we will see a second depression with electricity rates increasing that much.

If this is their plan, they sure as shite better get on the ball with licensing some new nuclear plants. If this price is accurate, it will be cheaper to equip your house with solar pannels than it will be to run only from the grid.

This is planned. Just go back and read some of Obama's campaign promises. This is exactly what he wants to take place.

If the parameters of the 1930's were being used in the present day it would show that we are in a depression.

If you can't make solar break even points work at current electricity cost, increase the cost of electricity till you can...

if i had a house, i would totally equip it with photovoltaics. they work great on a small scale, but as of now (and what i only assume will be for the forseeable future) they are not fiscally or functionally ready (along with wind) to replace coal burning plants as an energy supplier for large commercial areas.

They never will be fiscally ready, unless you make all other sources o energy so damned expensive that is reaches a tipping point. That is the plan that the Oboe, and Ahchew at the DOE are trying to make happen.

Solar prices have jumped up considerably too since we're now being screwed on all energy fronts since the tariff on Chinese solar panels was put in place last week under the guise of fair trade practices. I suspect the real purpose is to artificially help non-competitive US manufacturers look more attractive, some of whom already received porkulus "green energy" payouts.

frick Obama, frick Chu, frick Salazar, frick Jackson.

What these people are doing to this nation makes George III look like a complete slacker. Our Founding Fathers must be horrified at what has happened.

We've probably got a 15 year development period before technology truly begins to make fossil fuels cost inefficient. No link...just reading a book entitled "Abundance". Sounds plausible.

But a hell of a lot can happen in 15 years. If Obama crashes this place, worshiping at his egalitarian theology and using the 'global warming' scenario to "fundamentally change the nation"....then...we may all end up living in lean to's.

We should be trying to make energy very cheap, so as to placate a lot of frustrated and enraged citizens, and bring back our economy by selling ff energy on the world market. A market which should be prime, due to ME war.

Let's just hope true patriotic Americans who love FREEDOM, show up in a tidal wave and run this chip-on-the-shoulder Marxist tyrant out of town. And get the private economy humming so as to support the new technology on the drawing boards.

The inflation we would see on something like this would be incredible...

Yep...and kick in further inflation from the printing that will be required to send out unemployment checks and bailouts for basic services...and the sky is the limit.

Don't be silly. He's a de-developer (think Ted Kaczinsky). They don't want to go back to the stone age. They merely wish to go back to pre-industrial agrarian society.

We're building nuclear reactors instead of burning coal and you call that going back to the stone age?

wtf?
