Looking to take my family fishing for trout/redfish this summer. Wife and 2 kids (11,9)plus me. Thinking the Hackberry area but open to suggestions. Had one recommendation for Steve Turrentine in Hackberry. Anyone familiar with this guy?

TIA

If you come east to Cocodrie, Capt. Olden Rodrigue of Coastal Charter Services. Great Guy, nice safe boat. He fishes with kids all the time.

With kids, I would head to the east way more so that you can catch numbers of fish to keep. Trout limits out to the west are only 10 fish I think per person. Most guides will cut a trip short once you get your limit of fish. They will not stick around for catch and release fishing.

I bring my wife and daughter once or twice a year on a guided trip. We usually go to different areas each time. The best advice I can give you is spell out to the guide what is expected since you will have wife and kids aboard. It amazes me that a guide can present himself as a professional yet act like an idiot in front of women and kids. It makes for a long day on the water when you ask a guide to please stop cussing in front of your kids and he thinks that is an unreasonable request.

Something to consider when taking your wife or any female on a fishing trip is whether or not the guide's boat is equipped with a head. Many guides have 24' boats for that very reason.
