How does everyone feel this may weigh towards our chances with Williams and Beckwith? I doubt it makes a bit of difference for Nkemdiche.

Neither Beckwith nor Williams fear Allen as a recruit so I doubt that anything changes.

I bet Bateman went to Alabama on the presumption that he'd get first shot at the jack spot

I understand where the sentiment comes from, but the reality is that Bama doesn't sign that many Jack LBs. We signed 2 in '10 (only 1 qualified), 1 in '11, and 1 in '12.

We've recruited several this year (Nkemdiche, Allen, Liner, Williams, Beckwith) but we'll be lucky to actually sign 2 from that group. It's like recruiting several guys to play QB each year but only signing 1 sometimes 2.
Flame away.

I don't know about Williams, but with the way LSU seems to be going out of its way to keep the LB class clear just for Beckwith instead of offering Claiborne and Jones sure does not make it seem he would be foaming at the mouth to compete with Nkemdiche, Allen, and a bunch of other studs for one starting Jack LB spot. I do think the kid loves him some Saban though with the LBs he is sending to the NFL right now. But, how far down Bama's list is he if they keep landing these guys?

Yeah, the reality is that we've been coming up short-handed in recruiting the Jack spot each of the last 3 years. Wanted 2 in '10 but Alfy Hll failed to qualify. Wanted 2 in '11 but missed on Clowney. Wanted 2 in '12 but missed on Jordan Jenkins. 2 this year would get our numbers back up to where we want them. To sign 2 highly sought after guys, you typically hae to recruit 6 or 7 highly sought after guys.

you are giving Bama fans a bad name if you are going to come in here and try to offer rational explainations and stuff.

Bateman is actually going to play a little Jack to get on the field earlier in his career before he takes over for AJ.

I believe Nkemdiche is Bama bound until I see him sign elsewhere, so that would give you 2 top ten 5 star studs just right there this year. I know Nkemdiche can very likely and may probalby move to DE, but I still believe Bama's has one or two others on the board to go with them over Williams and Beckwith. I would think they have Williams rated over Beckwith, but I think Beckwith is the easier get for them. I am starting to feel more concerned with Miami for Williams than Bama right now. In the end, it just seems that LSU's situation should be to well suited far Williams to pass up. Beckwith's fascination with playing LB over DE, which seems like a mistake to me, appears it may be too hard far LSu to overcome without Bama filling up with higher targets or Mama keeping closer to home.

The 3-4 defensive Scheme at Bama and pther schools is going to play as much in who what where Williams & Beckwith sign more than anything.

I think Beckwith can be sold to multpile LB spots in the 3-4 which I thinks hurts LSU, but Williams seems to be Jack or bust. Not saying it will, but the LSU version of the 4-3 should actually be an advantage over the 3-4 for him.

Pretty much this.

They sell nearly every linebacker and future defensive lineman the JACK linebacker pitch, even though they see another position in that player's future. For example, Dee Liner. You know he won't stay small enough to be a JACK linebacker. He would end up a defensive end in the 34 defense. But that doesn't stop Saban from selling him what he wants to hear. That's why we see them getting so many good prospects on the defensive line (that "grew out of" JACK linebacker) and so many linebackers every year. It's borderline crazy that some believe what they hear.

Oh well, it is what it is. It's working to a T for Saban and Smart. They won't change it because it's so successful.

I dont care what the rankings say, Virginia high school football players are overhyped. They are not developed at the high school level, because it is not a priority any way compared to the south. Sorry this is the mid-atlantic and lacrosse is just as popular here. It makes me sick!

is that our recruiting strategy now, wait and hope that what’s left will want to come to LSU? seems that’s the story with the qb’s too
