Where is the list of the national dual threat QBs?
Posted on 5/20/12 at 8:54 am to justustm2
no worries. Miles will turn a black pro style QB into a dual threat QB.
Posted on 5/20/12 at 9:18 am to Maximus
Unbelievable how we have so much trouble getting OOS commits. We don't get the Florida kids any more and the national kids are none existent. Hopefully we can get a top notch dual-threat guy. Mett's success will be huge if we want to get a quality qb this year.
Posted on 5/20/12 at 10:56 am to Toughcrittercrumb1
What are you talking about? We won a bcs title with 51% of committs from oos. When LA isnt stacked, we go oos. Weve only had 2 qbs under miles from louisiana, and one was the top rated in the country.

I really hope that if Mett lights it up this year and we win a National Championship that he doesn't go pro! If he stays after this year we'll be fine after he would leave. That would give Rivers/Randall 3 years of learning the offense and coaching under Krags before they were put in the starting role.
Hopefully when QB recruits see how our offense is ran with a QB like Mett (who can actually throw the football) they fall in love with it and we land a major Top Notch QB!
Why wouldn't these high profile QB's not wanna play with the O-line, RB's, ATH's and Defense that LSU always has? We just need Mett to show up this season and be good. We don't need him to be an RG3/Luck type guy with the big numbers but we need him to spread the ball around and basically be a threat to throw the ball and we'll smoke people even worse than last year!!

Good post. While we'd all love to have a RGIII or Sam Bradford type that puts up huge numbers, we don't really need that. All we need in most years is a game manager in the mold of Flynn or McElroy and McCarron at Bama(I think McCarron has the potential to be more than that though). Also don't think Les or the OC's he'll hire will ever facilitate our qb putting up huge numbers in comparison to the top guys in the country.
The last part of that may be the most important and explainable reason we haven't attracted a ton of interest from the best of the best qb prospects(though I think Krags has gotten legit interest from some good prospects). Most of the top guys are looking at schools as an advancement towards the ultimate goal which is to reach the NFL. Whether right or wrong, they feel that putting up huge numbers helps that cause. I personally think it's much more about the talent of the kid more than the numbers they put up(if not then the Texas Tech qbs under Leach would've been much higher rated by pro scouts). If a kid has the talent that pro scouts are looking for and shows high level skill on tape, they'll get drafted high regardless of putting up major numbers. It's unfortunate that even down to the hs level these qbs are taught and trained that numbers matter. The infusion of the shotgun spread offense into hs football has seriously changed the thought process of these kids and what they expect and want from a college program. It's also making qb evals much harder to do thoroughly. These kids are being taught offenses and the mindset of a system that isn't what pro teams run. No that I blame the hs coaches because they're doing what they feel is needed for them to win, just feel that those systems make qb prospects look better than they actually are because they hide some major flaws. Jake Heaps is an ideal example. His entire skillset was centered around a shotgun spread and covered up the flaws he has as a qb. Weis' offense will not change that either. He's purely a system guy that was severely overrated as a hs prospect. Problem is that most of the flaws aren't fully uncovered until the kid is already signed and in a program. Too late then. Garrett Gilbert is another and he actually has legit pro arm talent. His flaws are just too much for his arm talent to compensate for. Physical giant but mental midget. Sounds familiar to LSU's problems the last 4 years.
That ended up extremly long. Pardon the book.

WE NEED TO GET JEREMY JOHNSON
we cannot continue this stretch of having lackluster qb play

I posted this in the Jeremy Johnson thread, but he will likely commit today if given the green light. He's visiting Auburn and has been waiting for a solid offer. Stay tuned.

Also, these are Auburn's 2, top targets left now. I know we have Jeremy Johnson committed, but we're more than likely going to finish with 2. I think we pulled the trigger on JJ because the majority of our other targets were committing elsewhere.

I've seen Buchanan. Truthfully, when I started to hear buzz that he was being heavily recruited by SEC schools I was floored.
He plays a weak brand of football in MS and did not stand out in the least.
I am still trying to wrap my head around him being a major college QB recruit.
