I've got this on my bucket list but would really like to go within the next 2 or 3 years. Who all has been and what did you kill? What is an average price for a bow hunt including airfare and taxidermy. I know it will vary just trying to get a good average. Thanks

We were supposed to go together but put it off. Anyway that's the best figure I can give you with all the ones we had looked at. Depending on what you shoot it could vary 3-5k either way.

I think cabela's lists several hunts with several outfitters on their website. Could give you a ballpark idea of what you will pay for what.

It really depends on what you want to hunt? It can be an expensive as you want, but bare bones for about a week with taxidermy, trophy fees and airfare you're looking at 6-8k

I went in 2005 to South Africa and shot six animals. Impala, gemsbok, blessbok, zebra, kudu, and a springbok. I stayed for two weeks. We also went bird hunting and yellowfin tuna fishing on the Indian Ocean.

In the end, after shipping everything back to the States and mounts...right at $20,000.

I booked a trip to Mozambique/Botswana a few years ago and ultimately cancelled due to local political unrest. It wasnt a good time to be a white boy in the area.

I know several guys who have gone. The one resounding notion I get from everyone is that the cost of the hunt is always much higher than advertised. Bribes are essential to get things done, especially when transporting valuable items such as firearms and trophies.

The other not so hidden cost is taxidermy. Dip, pack and crate can be prohibitively expensive so do your homework. Most hunters I know say the taxidermists in SA suck, so its probably best to have the hides shipped back and mounted locally.

My friends hunt with Rann Safari's last year was packaged at $30K for a buffalo hunt, out the door pricing with taxidermy was closer to $55-65K. He had a great time and tagged two huge bulls, but he said the sticker shock was unbelievable.

I'm sorry but why would anyone want to kill a Zebra? That's like shooting a horse? I just don't get it. Or an elephant, or giraffe, etc. which you see pics of all the time from Safari hunts.

I'm a firm believer in eating what you kill. Are they a nusance over there? Do the locals eat the meat?

I guess you could say the same about deer here, but at least everyone eats their deer meat.

Generally, I am too, but... the reality is, anything you shoot and leave on the ground... something's going to eat it, and right quick too.

You wouldn't eat a lion would you?

You can hunt for sport or trophies or meat. I don't know that a zebra really fits into any of those categories, but I don't think the carcass is going to be "wasted" per se.

Be sure to shoot a baboon. They make great mounts. The big males have some huge teeth. They are a nuisance over there and your guide will be happy for you to shoot them.

This looks awesome, but that price seems suspiciously low. I want to do something like this, but I hope to do it at a time when I could go without having to worry about nickel and diming my way through it.

I don't see the enthusiasm and need for shooting a zebra either so i'll hear what you have to say about it. Go.

It's my understanding that the meat is almost always given to the local tribes. This may not always be the case.
