I would at least get 1600MHz RAM if not 1866MHz, not much of a price difference at all.

Oh okay much cheaper than Radeon 7850 @ $250. You'll be fine there.

Like I said though, at least on NewEgg, that RAM runs $41.99, you can get the G Skill Ripjaw X Series @ 1866MHz for $18 more. Well worth it IMO. NewEgg

Should be a solid build, it'll dominate D3 that's for sure.

Very true.

The Intel i3-2100 delivers 10% more speed than that AMD 965 for about the same price.

Get the i5 2500k and gtx 560ti
and the Samsung 30nm ram.
amd has horrible processors

If you get the 550ti you might as well get the gtx 260 on ebay for half the price.

for $600 I would stay with the phenom. People don't realize the i5/i3 performance increases don't really transfer to gaming. That 965 will run just as many FPS as an i5 in most cases, with an unnoticeable drop n some cases of 2-4 FPS

The benchmarks seem to say otherwise. January article on Tom's Hardware

quote:

With the sub-$100 Pentiums performing so well, Intel's $125 Core i3-2100 easily beats more expensive Phenom II and FX models. And the $190 Core i5-2400 dominates the sub-$200 landscape without challenge, really. As such, we're almost-shockingly left without an AMD CPU to recommend at any price point.

I might get the Sapphire 6870 for 40 dollars more. What do yall think? I mainly just plan on playing D3 and counter strike? Will the 550 make that much of a difference?

I don't want to spend to much on my build

this has been the case for awhile. My very first PC build in HS was an AMD 1.4ghz build, the only problem was the CPU ran hot, but AMD has obviously rectified that problem. The last two build's I've done though have been intels, the latest being an i7.

I am assuming the OP will at some point want to do something besides Diablo 3 on this machine.

I don't really believe in future proofing PCs. If u spend $600 now and use it for 3 years you can spend another $600 then and get a pc that is much faster than a $1200 PC is now
