With more of a deep passing threat, how good can our running game be?

We averaged over 210 ypg rushing last year with 8-9 men constantly in the box. With the threat of an intermediate to deep passing game (sometimes, the most effective passes to loosen up a defense are the consistent 15-25 yard kind) how good can our running game be?

Could we consistently get 250 yards rushing? Could we run effectively on Alabama? Could we break off more 8-10 yard runs?

I think we could see an offense that averages 450 ypg this year if things are able to click.

I don't think we will be as consistent this year with the running game as last year. I say this only because the inside zone was our bread and butter and now we can expand our options and pass the ball resulting in less reps of the same running plays over and over. With that being said, our runs will be more home run hitting opposed to the consistent 3-5.

Should we be able to establish a verticle passing game it would be most diffcult to contain our running game. With creative play calling we should control every game.

My concern is this...after a full spring, a fall practice and 4-6 months into the season Mettenberger was not recognized as being better than Jefferson and/or Lee, what makes everyone believe he is "the answer". I think it's wait and see and hope he turns out to be what's advertised.

We are going to rape everyone with the run next year.

Miles is going to run the ball 50 times a game regardless of how good the passing game is

No matter what, Mett was not going to play last year. Lee was better than JJ and he did not play at the end of the season. Why wold Mett play over both of them.

Miles was too afraid of an INT.

Please, just stop.

Mettenberger was not recognized as being worse than JJ/JL either, just significantly more inexperienced.

It's clear that Miles played it safe with JJ/JL the entire 2011 season and it damn near worked to perfection until the NCG.

Have you seen some of the throws Mett can make?

Because I have and he is on another level of QB than JJ/JL.

Additionally, because of this and Miles' outspoken near guarantees that we will have more passing in the 2012 season, I believe we should expect more down field passes on early down which will allow our stable of running backs to gash the defenses and run for a plethora of yards.

LSU will still be a running team, but maybe even a better running team with Mett at QB.

Pre snap reads will get us into better plays consistently based on what the defense shows.

Beyond that, play action will be a much more credible threat than at any time since 2007.

Lastly, and also like 2007, you can expect consistent progressions. No more tunnel vision/stare downs on our primaries. No more pass plays being screwed of the 1st read isn't available.

More poise and cognitive ability fueling decisions. More using eyes and head to move safeties or force them into poor coverage situations. More stepping up in the pocket. Giving the receiver time to get open. Pushing the ball down the field. More stepping into throws.

All of which makes a devastating running game even more effective.

I never thought there was much, if any, a talent gap difference between 2010 and 2011 club. The performance gap was night and day. If the 2012 edition comes out on a mission....it's going to be a very good year.

Yes he is. He can make a 3rd read and deliver ball quickly. Has actual pocket presence. Can throw deep with accuracy. And as a bonus...he can actually run fairly well.

I'm assuming it's going to open up a lot of runs. No way teams can load the box up anymore. Unless they want a play action deep post to OBJ for about 60!
Gonna be a fun year.

This is simply not true. The vast majority of the fans might think this because they only know he didn't play much. But Mett was the best qb last year and believe it or not even the coaches new it. They just didn't think we needed him to win they played favorites with the Seniors.

The spring game did it for me. Of course he was wearing a green jersey, the intensity wasn't the same as a game, etc. But pocket presence, making reads without staring down the receiver, maneuverability gives me optimism.

our running game is going to be even better. if you load the box we can make you pay this year. That will open up all kinds of lanes for the backs and our stable will take off.

I think it was more of a case that Mett didn't put in the work or show the leadership to come in a "win" the job. He wasn't going to get handed the job simply because of better skills.

To be the answer he only has to operate at a true freshmen level, that's how bad JJ was/and or limited Les kept Lee. I'm pretty confident he can manage a freshman level performance with Les Miles tight on the reigns.

People are gonna look back at the last 4 years and realize how pitiful JJ and Les' passing offense was and wonder why the heck we couldn't just get a Marcus Randle type performance out of QB, I'm telling you people don't understand, they got lulled to sleep over-supporting Jefferson because you're only a fan if you say positive things constantly about your team.
