I live in Ascension parish and have used Hancock for years. I just looked at my statement and I have a $7.50 Fee for my checking account. (no more free checking option)

I've been thinking about jumping to a credit union and the $90 in annual fees are enough to motivate me. Any suggestions?

I think Neighbors FCU accepts just about any one today.

Switched to Neighbors from Regions about 8 months ago. No complaints so far. I know they have a branch in Prairieville, so I would assume Ascension residents are eligible.

E Federal isn't a bad choice. They have a branch in P'ville and Gonzales.

Neighbors has a reward checking that pays 3.01%. That could be a big swing from paying 7.50/month to getting paid.

interesting thread. ive had capital one for a while and they want to start charging me for both of my accounts. if going there and threatening to cancel dosent work then neighbors here i come. i live in ascension as well and have a neighbors savings account but need to resort to checking with free options.

Hancock and Capital One both have fairly easy ways to keep the checking free. I'd suggest reading up on their website for what fits you best. I know Chase has free checking for students, Hancock/Whitney you have to keep a $250 min, and Capital One has some easy direct deposit targets. You could always go into online banking - Charles Schwab is a good one with zero fees and ATM reimbursements.
