What's the board's opinion on John Mayer?

I really like his music and admire how he says what's on his mind, etc.

I guess I consider him more of a young songwriter comparable to Mellencamp and Dylan albeit more lovey dovey because his upbringing was upper middle class. If he was raised on a bankrupt farm in Indiana I think his songs would reflect that and would have more "street cred", but it's not really fair to blame his material on his circumstances, innit?

Anybody with thoughts? And please refrain from the tired and unfunny "know how I know you're gay" bullshite.

Blues riffs are straight but that's it, IMO

He's kind of a douche bag at times but theres no denying he's one of the greats from our generation, as far as guitar playing goes. He can write some beautiful melodies but a lot of his lyrics are aimed at pre-pubescent girls

Hey I haven't posted on the Music Board much so do I need to put the "know how I know you're gay" disclaimer? I really hate when you want to have an honest discussion about a Moby or John Mayer or something and you get the tards with the "chick music" cracks.

Is this board beyond that for the most part?

His live CD is amazing, anyone who says differently is an idiot. Fact.

Killer acoustic player.

His voice seems affected, though.

Very talented.
Funny at times. Douche at other times.

He has a new album that comes out on the 22nd. From what I've heard so far, it's a bit of a departure from some of his earlier poppy stuff.

Kind of reminds me of that dude with Counting Crows in that he's laid wood to numerous chicks light years out of his league

I'm not positive, but I'd guess he had a custom version of this...
