I know the NCAA tries to spread the regionals out across the country so I am thinking teams don't guarantee money to host regionals anymore?

That would make sense since LSU would likely be able to outbid all teams.

I don't think so. If that were the case I don't see how LSU would've been sent to UCLA as a 2 seed in 2010

Even though we could promise more money, they still have to seed/award the sites based on the team's success during the season.

Here's a recent article about the process written by a guy covering Clemson sports.
quote:

Quality and availability of facility and accommodations, venue attendance history and potential, and geographic locations are among criteria the NCAA Division 1 baseball committee uses to select the 16 regional sites, where four teams are seeded for double-elimination play. National balance is sought between eight regions: the Atlantic, the East, the Central, the Mideast, Northeast, South and West.

“The committee also endeavors to reward teams awarded the top seeds in the tournament with the opportunity to host,” said Cameron Schuh, the associate director for public and media relations for the NCAA. “There are certain situations where this does not occur, such as when a top seed does not submit a bid to host or when a second-seed is selected to host in order to better achieve a national balance of regional sites. But all things being equal, the committee looks to reward the top seeds.”

A minimum guarantee of $75,000 to the NCAA is required for regional bidding but even mid-major schools should be able to cover that, according to Clemson associate athletic director Kyle Young, and Clemson and South Carolina typically end up sending twice that amount to the NCAA.

Bids for super regionals, the best-of-three series between two regional winners, are submitted by the schools at the same time as bids for regionals, but the process of selecting those sites is different. The top eight national seeds are guaranteed to host super regionals, if they advance, and available super regionals are then awarded by bid if competing bids are submitted by teams with the same seeding in regional play.

quote:

Bids are due by May 18, and regional sites and seedings will be announced after conference tournaments end May 27.

LSUS is the #1 team in the nation and has to travel to Kentucky for their regional.

yes they do still do bidding on host sites. that's why you see teams host and not even be the #1 seed at that regional

Kentucky doesn't have the best setup, that's for sure.
