How many picks do the Saints have this year? I think they lost their 1st or 2nd round pick....any others?

Compensatory picks

That would thorw a lot of casual-NFL followers though.

Better question: anyone know how the compensatory picks are distributed? It has to be based on more than RFA signings, or do RFA signings only affect the non-compensatory picks?

1st rounder had been traded, I know for sure we lost the 2nd rounder. I think it was a 6th...

Its based on the previous years Free Agency. If you lose some guys in Free Agency to another team, the NFL gives them compensatory picks

Been watching them since second grade when Saints picked up Troy Davis and Danny wuerfuell (sp?). But this is the first time I have made it past the 4th.

I have another question. The saints lost their 2nd round pick. Who takes that spot? Does everyone just move up a notch?

You are correct. If there's a trade, they stay put, but if they lose a pick, every team gets to move up one. That's why teams love Goodell taking picks away from other teams.
