With the following criteria:

3.
4.
5.
6.

Isbell
1.
2.
3.
4.

Hood

2.

I am still trying to find what I like, so all I have now is:

Cooley
1. Ghost To Most
2. Self-destructive Zones
3. Pulaski
4. Gravity's Gone

Isbell
1. The Day John Henry Died

Hood
1. Righteous Path

Consider this vol. 2 of yours, using none of the same songs you have listed

Cooley
1. Zip City
2. Carl Perkins' Cadillac
3. Loaded Gun in the Closet
4. 3 Dimes Down
5. Space City
6. Birthday Boy

Hood
1. Ronnie and Neil
2. Let There Be Rock

Isbell
1. Decoration Day
2. Outfit
3. Goddamn Lonely Love
4. Never Gonna Change

Ummm... Women Without Whiskey? Outside of the two "City" songs, that is Cooley's masterpiece.

Yes, it should. I liked the rest of the list, especially the Isbell list. With Shonna Tucker now gone, does this open the door for Isbell to come back?

Though my two Hood songs, which seems low - he is the primary songwriter even if Cooley is the Man, would be:

This fricking Job
The Day John Henry Died

He is doing too well on his own.

Man, you're right. Actually, Hood says the best song he ever wrote is The Living Bubba. I also like Buttholeville, for personal reasons.

Seems as if there were times they should have told Hood that we just can't cut your songs right now. His voice was so fried. Other times, it's not so bad and I can get him confused with Jason.

Hood just doesn't have a filter. He writes a billion songs and puts them all of them on the record. Cooley writes three perfect songs per record, it seems. I prefer Cooley's songwriting method, but Hood's technique means a stream of new material. IT also probably gets Cooley off his arse to finish his three perfect songs. It's a good relationship.

Cooley has too many to limit it to 6. You can do a "best of" with each of the three, and still probably have a tough time narrowing it down

Cooley
1. 3 Dimes Down
2. Zip City
3. Self Destruction Zones
4. When the Pin Hits the Shell
5. Women Without Whiskey
6. Gravitys Gone

Isbell
1. Outfit
2. Goddamn Lonely Love
3. Danko/Manuel
4. Decoration Day

Hood
1. Dead, Drunk and Naked
2. Drag the Lake Charles/Box of Spiders

Its tough to narrow it down to 2 Patterson Hood songs for me. I also think that most of Jason Isbells best work has come on his first 3 solo records.

FWIW I agree. I love the Truckers but I think Isbell is making just about the best new music that is coming out now.

I like the way it is where we get both of them. If he re-joined the truckers he would be releasing 2-3 songs ever 3 years.

Oh and I'll see you at the Manship

Hood (off top of head)
Bulldozers & Dirt
Sands of Iwo jima
Margo & Harold
Plastic flowers on highway

Isbell
John Henry & Goddamn lonely love

Cooley
I'm sure this makes me a bad person, but I never liked Cooley's vocals. His writing is great, but I don't care for his vocals.

you'd be a lot worse of a person if you liked his vocals but not his writing

I heard Zip City today at lunch on Outlaw Country. I appreciate the story/writing, but it does not sound near as good, to me, as the other stuff I like from Cooley.
