who is a better all around player

I mean good hitter, a defensive player, and what he does on the bath paths.

in 2010 Gibbs was kinda that guy who always seemed to get on. good defensive catcher.

now Rhymes has a great bat, and nothing real defensively sticks out to me but isn't a negative on defense.

This is a very strange question, for quite a few reasons.

Haha..Gibbs is one of the best LSU defensive players I have ever seen.

He threw out about 3% of base stealers in 2010.

Rhymes has no position and Gibbs was great behind the plate. I'd go with Gibbs.

Hard to tell because Gibbs was a great defensive cather his whole career, but just started hitting real well his last season.

Rhymes is a more consistant hitter, and a good fielder just not the outstanding fielder that would make him head over heals better than Gibbs.

Gibbs was not good as a catcher once teams figured out they could steal on him with ease. He was a great back stop and great tiger, but he couldn't throw anyone out

And when you put it that way.....

I still say Gibbs.

Pretty much it.

Near the end of 2010 half of his throws to 2nd would go into center.

My bad, wasn't arguing with you. I agree his defense is still better than Rhymes. But to the poster who says he is one of the greatest defensive players is crazy. Ross is currently throwing out over 40% of base stealers, Gibbs threw out 8% in 2010.

His only real flaw his last year here. He hit well and rarely let balls get by him, but he couldn't throw someone out to save his life.

Yeah 2009 was his best year defensively.

How much of it was Gibbs struggling with his pop time and how much of it was pitchers not doing a good job of controlling the running game?

Gibbs had a great year with the bat in 2010...one of the best ever. However, he did leave his excellent defense in 2009 behind (throwing guys out).
