I talked to Robbie Vitrano, head of an advertising agency contracted to help re-brand the Hornets. Amongst other things, he’s trying to get a new name for the team starting in the 2013 season – or maybe an old one.

Why would changing it to New Orleans Mormons make Utah trade us? If I was Utah, I'd just sit back and laugh at New Orleans.

So Vitrano thought – how could New Orleans get the Jazz back? One idea he had was to change the Hornets to “The Mormons” in an effort to force Utah’s hand and trade them for the team name.
\ please let it happen

There's something about this quote that just makes me think we're in for a really shitty rebrand like Oklahoma City got when Seattle moved there.

Yeah if there was any doubt about this Benson just shut that down. The name will be changed. 100%. Its done. Benson is pushing hard for it.

Forget Krewe then. Focus on the other names going around. Arc Angels, Brass, Voodoo, Captains, whatever. If you don't like Krewe let's come up with something better.

You should go start a separate thread for each name.

No it's not. Awful are the names that idiots on the call in shows come up with. Some are better than others, but I think any of the top 5 that we've been kicking around for a while are viable. In Alphabetical order: Brass Krewe Pelicans Some variation of Pirate Voodoo What concerns me is this is being rushed. All it takes is a bad but catchy name and a facebook contest open to idiot casual fans who haven't been obsessing over names for the last few years to wind up with the New Orleans Sinners.

I like the Krewe name a lot. I think it is fricking awesome and entirely unique. And I think it is unique and "cool" enough to catch on with people outside of the city, especially young people. I think it would work. But Brass and Voodoo work for me. I really like Breakers but thats even more obscure than Krewe. Still like it. And I like Soul too even if it sounds like a WNBA name.

I don't care if it means nothing to NOLA. The Hornets brand has too much history as an NBA club. We have altered the logo, colors and lettering to meet the culture of NOLA. IMO, we've invested far too much into the Hornets brand to just throw it all away. Benson is rushing this like it has to happen tomorrow. Like Stern said, he technically doesn't even own the team yet. I'd rather focus on player development and recruitment than worrying about name change.
