Katz has more power. Your best hitter is supposed to hit 3rd (Rhymes).

Just wondering what everyone thinks.

Since when are there rules to a lineup?

Schimpf was possibly our most dangerous hitter when he was here and he batted 9 hole?

Just asking a question.

"Rhymes is not a typical cleanup hitter, with only one home run." - dude calling the game on espn

Katz would protect Rhymes, too. I don't know why but it's worked out the way it is.

And to the guy above me. Shut the frick up. It's a message board so we can discuss things like this.

I guess Nola coming on lately has helped, but Katz would obviously be better protection.

I'd hit Rhymes 3rd. That's just me. I want him getting as many at-bats as possible. Katz his a good amount of home runs, yet Rhymes is never on base for any of them. I'd try to change that.

You want Rhymes to get more RBI chances. He's hitting in the right spot in my opinion.

Rhymes can get it done at a very high level without a great hitter behind him.

You can pitch to Katz when you have to. So, him having Rhymes behind him pays off a lot more than vice versa.

Shimpf of was batting 9 hole when we had Matt Clark hitting 25 home runs and Blake dean was homering about once every other game during that epic win streak.

typically speaking you are correct, however THIS is what works.. and you don't change what is working or mess with it IMO. it could be very devastating

Yeah that's what I was thinking. You have to pitch to Katz because you have Raph behind him who hits everything. Gives Katz more chances which is probably why he's hit as many homers as he has.

I think it has worked because Katz has more power and spends more time in scoring position, so Rhymes the singles hitter is still able to score him a lot. On the other hand, due to the lack of power Rhymes doesn't get himself into scoring position often and doesn't have great speed to be able to score ahead of Katz.

Just my .02

Why didn't you tell coach maineri that in 2009 when lsu was ranked #2 and he made huge changes.

As for the original thought, flip Katz and rhymes in the first inning and Katz would have batted with one out ant fields on 3 rd...sac fly. Lsu would have scored 2 runs in the first.
