It is kind of funny that so many people condemn Johnny Jones for his part in breaking NCAA basketball rules and said that means he should never be coach but then supported other coaches that have broken rules in the past - Pearl, Tubby Smith, Scott Drew, etc. Others say that we should have gotten a home run proven winner. IMHO you don't attain that lofty position in college basketball without breaking some of the rules. Those are just the ones that haven't been caught yet.

No other team wanted Jones not in 11 years at NT.

Louisiana people who want don't know basketball!

They think Louisiana is some hotbed of talent and if we lockdown the state we will be world beaters.

You must recruit nationaly to be competative, Louisiana does not have very much talent in BB.

Since 04 which was the exception to the rule La has not had a top 10 player.

Thats what you need to compete top 10-20 players.

DD son was all excited about aau connections so what!

Didn't Lester Earl recant the allegations and finally admit that he was pressured by NCAA investigators to lie about Dale Brown & Johnny Jones?

Or was that just for Dale Brown's involvement?

What rules were Tubby supposed to have broken? Don't lump him in with the others. Tubby has run clean programs and to my knowledge has never been accused of violating NCAA rules.

The North Texas board seems to think that Jones had been looked at several times during his career there.

I said it before why would he try to get another job? Obviously this is his dream job. He worked hard and got UNT turned into a consistant winner. Around 2-3 years ago (coming of several 20 win seasons and a couple tourney births) would have been the logical time for him to take the next step up. However thats right at the time that TJ was winning 2 games in the SEC.
So there was a cross roads A. take a step up to a bottom of the barrel major program and be mired in a rebuilding process when the LSU job comes open or B. keep winning at the program you built and hope thats enough

it is better for people to think you are ignorant than for you to post this and prove them right.

you probably did not watch one of his games, either as a player or coach.

go tygers
Your spelling leaves a lot to be desired, but its the thoughts that count.

I agree, all those guys hoping to "lock down louisiana" have a fantasy about Louisiana ball.

For the guys who were freshmen for the 2011-2012 season, rivals had no Louisiana hs recruits in top 100.

The football analogy is Louisiana basketball is like UTk football.
Not enough to compete at the highest level, without recruiting the bigger cities within 300 miles.
For LA basketball, that's going to be Houston.
For UTk football, that's CIncinnati, Louisville and the ever popular ATL.

My observation is we are fricked, dumb hire, 5 more years of losing, him being at north Texas for 10+ years and no one else wanted him says all you need to know.

11 years is an awful long time to be at a program like N Texas if you really are that good. I just hope that he was a well kept secret.

Pearl coached at Wisconsin-Milwaukee before he got the Tennessee job.

Drew was the coach at Valpo before he got the Baylor job.

That being said coaches have to start somewhere. So what Jones was NT for 11 years. He brought a nothing program to the Dance the same way Drew and Pearl did.
