The MLS has many problems competing with Mexican teams, and I think the fact that they are in mid-season form during the knockout rounds while we are just starting our season doesn't really help us.

MLS gets the advantage in the early rounds, and can knock out teams from other leagues by mid-season form in the group stage. But as for advancing in the knockout stages, the roles are reversed, especially with scheduling. Like it or not, MLS MUST, finally, admit that they have to get in line with the rest of the world. The league needs to put a plan into place to adjust the season to begin in August or September.

There are rumors that the change might happen down the road.

Sorry, the league is doing well under it's current setup. Why make it line up with the start of the American football season, and end around the best part of the NBA season. Fans will always choses to spend their money on the NFL over any other sport. Baseball has such a long season, it's far easier for MLS to compete for spectators during the summer. Other leagues, like Russia, most Latin American leagues have some form a spring/summer league.

The league is doing well, agreed. Why put the playoffs (another problem, for me, but another thread, too;) up against the NFL? With a "normal" northern hemisphere footie schedule, the NBA is getting good, but not yet at playoffs whilst MLS would be ending. As far as actual attendance, with the average size of NBA arenas, and MLS grounds, there's plenty enough fans to fill both venues in the run-in to playoffs. Plus, it would give MLS a better shot at CONCACAF CL knockout success with the MLS teams being at the same stage of the season with the Mexican League, especially. As for the travel schedule, that will always put MLS at a disadvantage. There's no league-wide/nation-wide solution to that, except to curtail inter-conference matches, but then, you water down the schedule.

I think the season is fine as is, at least until it gains enough popularity to compete with viewers in he fall (probably never)

Garber has said flat out that the schedule will not be moved so long as he has say.

I actually like the schedule, as it prevents playing in the winter, which can be tricky, as well as competing with the NFL, which would be the death of this league. And let's be honest, the CONCACAF CL isn't really that important, especially when changing the schedule risks the survival of the league as a whole. Maybe in another 20 years, we can change, but right now the league schedule is the last thing I want the MLS to change.

Yeah I think changing the schedule wouldn't be a good idea. Fall to Spring is the busiest sports schedule in American sports. Playing most of the season during the summer works good since you are only really competing with baseball.
