I'm surprised by this... maybe they are aiming high with the hopes of a less offense of manslaughter, or negligent homicide.

I didn't see where they sent lesser charges to the jury...wouldn't they have gone the GJ route if this was their plan?

If it's like Louisiana, then a jury can convict of lesser and included charges even if not presented.

They must have more evidence, because what was released to the media was pretty lacking.

Yes it would if they don't have more evidence than what's been reported.
It's going to be difficult finding a jury and no way he's convicted based on the story we have so far.
