We can't hire these people because they don't want the job. They want a raise where they are. LSU football had to drop down to OK State to get Miles. The SEC is not the best conference in basketball like it is in baseball and football.
It is not a knock on LSU to say these coaches aren't really interested. It is just reality.

Jamie Dixon should be offered $2.5 million. He is right up there with the best.

lsu basketball is still more important than lsu baseball in terms of money and national recognition for the school.

Jamie Dixon--Jamie Dixon--!!!will take him in a second. If he can win at PITT, he can certanly win here. My big 12 source tells me that all coaches in that conference hate Drew--The NCAA sniffing at him bothers me also. Could be nothing-a hand slap--or could be the big boot.

I agree.

But some people, a lot of people, act like it's absolutely absurd that a guy like Dixon would even consider the LSU job, as if Pitt is sooooo superior to LSU in basketball. I just don't think the discrepancy is that large.

LSU has plenty of plusses in it's favor, to build great program, if the right coach is in place.

Jamie Dixon is a pipe dream. Can't see him leaving a Big East power in Pitt for LSU.

Also in some cases of successful HCs, some are regional recruiters where the school sells itself, and some national recruiters like Calipari,etc..

Jamie Dixon, though very solid HC, inherited a nice situation(one he helped create and build) from his mentor Ben Howland.

Can he recruit nationally, or were most of his and Howland's Pitt teams built via regional talent that wanted to either play at Pitt and/or Big East?

LSU needs a charisma hire..Pastner, Tyndall, JJ, Dixon, Bennett, etc..just not sexy.

Scott Drew, until yesterday's announcement of long-in-review findings, at least had some Dale Brown televangelist charm and sell abilities..which LSU Hoops desperately needs.

If only Bruce Pearl weren't show-cause!! Maybe the job opens again by 2015?

I've got to think Tony Bennett is a serious candidate. Has LA connections and is one hell of a defensive coach....young.

Which like with MSU's Pastner, affects the HCs decision to back-channel and/or agent take calls, and ponder. Thus why Pastner and Dixon have been mentioned so often in this search. Both have situations via new conference affiliation, where there programs fall much further down the food chain.

Love the guy, and his dad, always have. But, their style aint sexy. Will not fill the PMAC nor land Parade 5* ballers with it. Though do think his charm and class could fill some seats. And it is a winning/tourney-making brand of ball.
