I know this will cause a lot of ranting from the rantards so gentlemen warm up your keyboards and please at least use a dictionary and spell those bad words correctly.

My topic is luck. It is in direct opposition to this idea that if enough money is put on the table we will get a great new basketball coach. That is just not true. Trent getting 2.3 million from TCU should tell you that.

Neither are the threads which say we have to have a proven head coach and assistants and nobodies need not apply. Trent should be proof of that. Although many of you just want to ignore it Trent has been not only a head coach at, I think, four schoos, he has been coach of the year in three conferences, two of which were so called major conferences. If we had a chance at a coach like that now you would be jumping through hoops and salivating based on stats and coaching record.

So it's not money and it's not stats, coaching record or presitge my friends. It is plain and simple luck which will see us through to a good coaching hire.

Not so you say, I am an idiot of the first degree. Well did anyone dream that a totally unknown coach such as Dale Brown could have risen to the heights he did? How much money did we pay him compared to the elites at the time? Of course some of you don't even think Dale was a good coach and wouldn't have hired him.

Given Trent's past proven record and nice chunk of change we handed him every year, why did he not make it at LSU? They now say he wasn't a good fit? What does that mean? No one seems to really know other than to say he wasn't from the south and therfore couldn't recruit players from the south and that's the problem. Let's see, Dale was from North Dakota. Can't get any further away from the south and still be in the United States.

I don't know much about recruiting but I do know that basketball players don't stay in their home states very often. Know how many of Kentucky's roster are from there? Four and ten are from out of state. Their two biggest stars are from out of state and I think four out of five starters including the player of the year.

Of our four greatest players of all time, Petit, Maravich, O'Neal and Jackson, only one was from Louisiana.

Why will a new coach be successful. He will bring in good players and it really doesn't matter where they come from., He will have a good system in place on offense and defense that fits his players abilities. He will get his players to buy into that system and execute it well.

How do we know a coach will do this ahead of time? We don't. From here on out it's luck my friends. It's luck if we get a good coach, it's luck if more of our players don't leave and it is a great deal of luck if we can get a steady supply of good players to come here. Say a prayer if you believe in such things but it will not be a definite thing no matter who we hire.

You may have a point, but geography wise, fail.

Shouldn't that be "causes" or "caused"?

Meaning the players and coach have to come from Louisiana? Any reason why?
