No GPS on the tracker unit.

They care about miles and driving habits.

Slamming brakes, etc

I'm pretty sure it only tracks your trips, time, mileage, time over 75 mph, sudden stops and sudden starts

LINK

The myrate has no idea if you are speeding unless you are going over 75 mph.

According to Progressive, you can save up to 25% at best or pay 9% more at worst. If you don't drive like a douche I seriously doubt you would end up paying more.

Have any evidence to support that? Or are you pulling that from the same source that said it tracked where you were?

Think about what you are bitching about for a second.....how can they know the speed limit to check against to go " 5 over " if they dunno where they are.

They are about milage, driving time and duration, and acceleration and deceleration profiles.

The only one I've heard of considering overall speed is Allstate and in Illionis only, and it's only a flag for number of times you go over 80 mph.

Sorry but I see nothing wrong with that if you are seeking a discount for being a safe driver.

Just wait a few years and the tracker will be mandatory to buy insurance. They will get state govt to pass the law. This is how it starts with the pilot program. I've already written my state representatives asking for them to introduce legislation that the will not allow these devises to be required for insurance purchases. Will probably never hear back. Luck for me my local state senator worked for State Farm for 30 years.

I hate big brother as much as the next guy, but I don't think this is as orwellian as yall are making it out to be.

I'm all for requiring cars to have these devices if it causes people to slow down.

It's for research dude.

You are already being monitored anyway. Unless you avoid sidefire radars and never turn on any bluetooth device in your car.

My buddy used it and only drove from home to work, saved him about $50 a month.

Progress? Insurance companies finding new ways to screw people is not progress.

That's not what its purpose is. It is going to be used to provide real time travel time information to users on the highway network. It can be used in so many ways to improve the infrastructure, make things more efficient, save money on local, state, and federal levels. In addition to safety of course, which is the primary concern of the insurance companies.
