| we at least need a "dinardo" for basketball (Posted on 4/8/12 at 9:47 am)
we need some excitment. brady was so bland, the fans couldn't even get worked up the year he had a really great team. i thought that trent was an exciting guy when we hired him, but he was dull as paint peeling off the wall. dale brown was an exciting coach, whatever you think about him. dinardo, if you remember, came in to bring back the magic. the excitement he brought resulted in some good things happening, till he hit bottom with his coaching staff. nonetheless, even if we don't get a great coach. we need somebody who can ignite excitment just by his personality. IMHO. such a guy might set the stage for a great coach to follow, even if he can't have long-term success.

I'd rather hire a "Saban" for basketball. Or a "Miles", for that matter. Get me a coach from a program that's considered second rate to some other in-state school; a coach that has estiblished a winning track record for several years; and is considered a excellent recruiter. That formula has worked for football. Let's use that criteria and go hire a "damn strong" coach. Have a nice day.

Hell, I would take a "Mike Archer" at this point. Just get me to March Madness two years in a row. Give me something to get excited about. Maybe even win an SEC Tournament, something LSU hasn't done since 1981.

This was the sentiment of some 4 years ago and I didn't think at the time that should be even in the top three reasons. However, now I think we're at the point where that needs to be one of the pre-requisites. We need someone who can breath some life into a dying fan-base. But we also need to win.

Who are some of the top assistant coaches from premier programs like KU, UK, Duke, UNC, etc? Seems like we need a young and energetic coach to revive the program.

Normally rpg37 I subscribe to the idea of someone with head-coacing experience. But I think the one's I'd really want probably aren't realistic and the one's we could get are just meh. I might be willing to make an exception for a young assistant with some energy and enthusiasm on this one.

That's true, but I want a coach who has been part of championship programs and has the expectation levels to bring with him. I want the expectation to be SEC Titles, Sweet 16s and so on. The human brain is designed to achieve just less than what you expect. We can't hire someone with the goal of being one of the Top 68: it's ridiculous. Give me someone who can spark success and give a young and comer the opportunity to lead an SEC program with decent tradition and I think that is the better bet than hiring a semi-established HC who will leave for a better job after three years.
