Just a few simple questions.

Who here has been a part of any organized football team at any level, i.e. High School, College, Semi-Pro or Pro? And did that time consist of being in the locker room just before, during or immediately after a game?

ETA- With the exception of the ACL comment, was the majority of what GW said any worse than what you used to hear from your Coaches?

High School.

And no, I was never told to take out an ACL or hit opposing player's heads or ankles.

2 years in high school and I'm not sure I'm reading the 2nd question right but yes we were in the locker room before, at halftime, and after the game.

ETA: now that I realize where you're going with this I will say yes I've heard similar speeches to the one Williams gave. I still play rugby and we've talked about things like this but never to an extent even close to that. I've also never had a coach order anyone to go directly for another players ACL. That crosses the line

I love these little, "who has been on a team" threads. I bet it makes you feel cool, doesn't it?

You were obviously in the band in jr. high and didn't make the cut for high school band. Why so mad?

THAT was over the line...

But the other stuff is just typical football talk. My coaches would say stuff like, "Blood makes the grass grow! I want them all lying on the ground in pain!!!"

at every level I played, it was the same.

But specifically the ACL thing... that is too particular and too specific. He didn't speak in generalities and football terms there.

I suffered a torn ACL as well as two shoulder reconstructions, and I take offense.

No, I'm just trying to get an idea of what everyone else used to hear from their Coaches in the locker room. Thae majority of what GW said wasn't any different than what I used to hear. But I will agree that the ACL thing is way over the line.

I surely do, but it's a nowhere destination. Saying "knock him the frick out" is fine by me. I want to see big hits and tough play. That's why I watch football and not figure skating. Hearing talk about ACLs? frick that. Any coach who says that isn't doing it right.

I went to a private Christian school and we got helmet stickers for hard hits and were told to make the other team "piss blood". (Nothing about ACLs though)

You don't tell anyone to take out an acl.

I have been defensive of the saints the whole time, but damn that is bad.

See, that's why I think it's overblown. It's not unheard. It's the ACL business, which is bullshite.

high school and played last year in a full contact alumni game, we were always told to do our best and leave it on the field, never told to intentionally hurt someone by the coaches
