I am a graduating senior with a marketing major hoping to get involved in the oil and gas field. At one time I hoped to go to law school and work as a legal consultant for a big firm. Is anyone is the oil and gas business with any career advice?

Yep - and we don't really hire Marketing Majors.

I have a marketing degree and work in the oil & gas industry in sales. Ive been doing since I graduated. Your only opportunities will be on the downstream side.

If you don't know the difference b/w upstream & downstream look into another industry.

Good luck

They aren't exactly lining up to hire marketing majors, try to find something offshore and move up.

Land man is the only thing I can think of that a marketing degree is good for.

I was a landman and now work in sales (upstream) with a degree in Communications.

Look at procurement jobs.

Best bet to start you search is rigzone.

Contract landman is great work starting out but you want to move in house. Working as a 1099 contract field landman is not something I would want to do long term.

I love it and I've been doing it since 2006. I've also been lucky enough to never have to do any major traveling involving long term hotel stays. If you get in with the right company, it's a great, flexible line of work.

I wouldn't mind moving into energy as a meteorologist.. willing to move (actually, I'd really like to move).. but haven't had any luck. I've got my eye on a job with BP but if anyone knows of an opening coming up, I'd love a good word.
