You sort of sound like someone who thinks The Doors were geniuses over the Beatles because they were melancholy and drunk and miserable and wrote long-winded blowhard songs.

I could not name one Doors song.

Ok so songwriting is the only aspect of music? Because i can tell you bands like led Zeppelin and pink floyd were way more technical.

the beatles are loved because they are the first .... not because they are the best. they are nostalgic ... they aren't however amazing.

I can appreciate what the Beatles did, considering the era they were in at the time and I can appreciate some of the song writing and actually like a couple of their songs.

I just think their music is uninspiring and mediocre for my taste, and don't have one single Beatles song on my MP3 player. I like Bob Dylan's songwriting, just hope it isn't him singing. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate his place in history, just means he (and the Beatles) are not may style and my musical taste.

If it weren't for The Beatles, there is no telling what music would be today. For that, I appreciate them. But other than that, I dislike their music.

For those of you that don't like the Beatles....have you listened to a lot of their stuff from different periods? The reason I ask is because a lot of people hear stuff like "I want to hold your hand" and "she loves you" and then quit listening to them. Some don't listen to their psychedelic stuff or the later music when imo they were at their best.

Ripped of blues music and gimmicked it up with sound effects? Yes, they did that very successfully. I liked their first three albums a a lot, by the way, in spite of the criticism htey received from real musicians.

Because Harrison didn't play scales real fast to impress the fanboys? Or McCartney didn't play funky bass like George Porter or showy like John Entwistle (actually, McCartney is rated as one of the best rock bassists if you do a little research)?

Tell you what. It's been almost 50 years since the Beatles first broke onto the scene. Their music is still covered and revered by serious musicians. I mean cats who know how to play and know good composition. That's no accident.

What I like is when older guys like you, legitimately get angry because a younger generation doesn't "get" the Beatles.

I'm sure my grandkids won't love Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots or the Foo Fighters ... And you know, that's ok.

Well, I love Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, Buck Owens, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Howlin' Wolf... And I hope my grandkids will love them.

there's way better bands out there

and "imagine" this- let's say we replaced the beatles with other musicians, think how much better of a band this would be, if we replaced these beatles with these other people:

john lennon- billy joel
paul mcartney- kenny rogers ( yes kenny rogers plays bass)
george harrison- bryan may
ringo- dave grohl

that would kick so much arse

what a dumb post

the beatles weren't good because they were world class at their instruments, pretty mediocre in fact, but lennon and mccartney had a special chemistry of working together to write songs and bouncing ideas off each other, especially in the earlier years, which was what made them so good

throwing a bunch of good musicians together doesn't automatically equal success

Most of the "younger generation" actually admire and like the Beatles. I know kids in their teens and twenties who have them loaded on their i-pod.

I like all of those bands you just named.

When it comes to The Beatles it's not so much of generational issue for most listeners. It's a matter of opening your ears and having good taste.

BTW, I like all kinds of bands - Beatles, Stones, Allman Bros, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Black Crowes, The Clash, Band of Horses, Arcade Fire, The Kills (not the Killers, btw ), Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Pink Floyd, early Zeppelin, and on and on. It's not a matter of how good the writing is, how relevant the music is, and, mostly, how good it sounds. The Beatles hit a home run. I hope people continue to listen to good music regardless of when it came out.

To bland and boring music? Give me a band like Creedance Clearwater Revival ... Now that isn't boring.

Good post. I like the idea of the Beatles way more than I like their music. I'll always respect them for what they are, b/c there almost has to be something about them for them to have been so popular.

But I personally cannot find it. I usually change xm stations when they come on. It's not that I think they suck, I just find them boring.

um....what?

VH1 did their 100 Greatest Artists of All Time....and the Beatles were easily #1. At the end of the show they announced that over 3/4 of the voters weren't even born when the Beatles were playing, and they were the overwhelming #1.

It's not just "old" people that like the Beatles.

Of course many people of my generation like/love the beatles ....

many, of course, like me .... don't ... and don't get the awesomeness of them either.
