Assuming the dome is around for another 30 years and continues to host big time events, will the Superdome join the likes of the great American venues (Wrigley, Fenway, Rose Bowl)? I am thinking in a few decades it will be up there.

i think it is already up there with the rose bowl, but will never be up there with Fenway, Wrigley field, Yankee Stadium, etc...because it's primary tenant is not as famous/historical as the Red Sox, Cubs, or Yankees.

Partly revered for their aesthetic charm...not just history.

Depends if you think the Superdome has charm?

Not on their level. It's a tier below them.

Yea, no. Unfortunately, right now one of the most famous hostings at the Superdome was after Katrina. I would place it right with old Cowboy Stadium. History, recognition, and in big areas with big teams.

You Louisiana homers are crazy. There's not a damn soul outside of Louisiana that wants to make a trip to the Superdome based on its history. It's just a concrete eyesore. There's no charm to it. It looks like a dungeon on the inside with the bad lighting.

Muhammad Ali, Dean Smith, Bobby Knight, Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, Bear Bryant, Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Tom Landy, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Walton Payton and Michael Jordan all won titles in the Superdome.

Monday will be the Dome's 5th Final Four, and then a record 7th SuperBowl next year. With it's place in the BCS rotation, the Dome already has its place in history.

Not this!!!

The Dome has held countless Super Bowls, Final Fours, CF championships. Muhammad Ali even fought there. The Dome gets more credit than you think.

Yep.

People who discount the Dome's role in sports over the past 40 years are pretty clueless. No domed venue in the world has seen as much as the Superdome has.

That's why it will never be iconic. Because the Saints will never be the Yankees.

Hosting Final Fours doesn't give a place "charm".

The Saints just happen to play in the Superdome. They don't own it like the baseball teams do. The Saints are only a speck on the Dome's sport footprint

Nobody wants to make a special trip to the Dome because Muhammad Ali fought there 40 years ago.

People make special trips to the Rose Bowl, Wrigley Field, and Cameron Indoor Stadium because it is unique or the atmosphere. The Dome doesn't have that.

The only shame has been, despite some great NCAA Hoops classics, most SuperDome SuperBowls have been by landslides.

Exactly. Those places are loved not because of what historical events did or didn't happen there, but because they serve as a physical manifestation of USC, the Cubs, and Duke and everything they represent.

Those are bucket list places...the Dome isn't.
