In contrast to me previous post about biggest 5 star bust who would you say is the biggest pleasant surprise? Obviously TM7 but my favorite LSU alumni player of all time has to be Jacob Hester. The dude was a 3 star and I think a 2 star on rivals but was LSU's most consistent back of all time IMO.

FUN FACT: Hester would listen to Elvis Presley during pre game

Biggest surprise to commit to LSU who is currently on the roster is Big Sam.

His success is paving the way for LSU recruiting in that area of the country.

TM7. No not because he was a low star recruit but because he went from PP7's shadow to the forefront all on his own hard work.

NO ONE and i mean NO ONE had TM7 on their Heisman radar preseason. Talk about paving your own path, he did it in style.

I'm not sure but wasn't Harvey Williams considered an A&M lock until he announced for LSU? Wasn't the crowd around him singing the Aggie fight song right before he broke their hearts?

In terms of "outperformed their star rating (recently)":

Matt Mauck
Corey Webster
Jacob Hester
Tyson Jackson
Ciron Black
Kelvin Sheppard
Morris Claiborne

Shawn Burks - I think in those days there was a Blue Chip List, A Red Chip List, and one called Others. Shawn did not make the Others List but made All American at LSU!!!

I feel like you should put "recent" in your titles. I'm not that old, but we probably had some good steals back in the day.

Id go woth sam as biggest surprise, thought we had no chance of landing him. Rs his first year, got injured his second, the dude just shows what it means to be a tiger and he just keeps getting better by all accounts.

Are you sure about this?

Not knocking him. He "decapitated" (Steve Rehage's words) some of USC's RB's in '84. Shawn was a very good LB in '84-'85 but I don't think he made any (recognized) AA teams.
