I have a mini griptillian. It's an AWESOME knife. I love the locking mechanism and it holds an edge really well. It can be a PITA to sharpen though. Tool steel is hard as a viagra dick and if you let it get dull you'll have a case of the redass trying to get it sharp again.

I like mine, and would probably buy another one to replace it. Better than a kershaw? IMO it is because I don't like assisted opening.

Should you buy it over the kershaw? Meh. A knife is a knife. Just depends what you like to spend your money on. It's $40 better than a kershaw IMO, but I don't NEED an $80 knife.

Depending on what you do for a living, you can get them at a significant discount here:

Pro Deals

Benchmade and several other vendors offer significant discounts there if you complete a profile.

It's definitely the best knife I've ever owned. Sized right, holds an edge incredibly well, comfortable and safe to use. I like it because I can clean 3 or 4 deer in a row with it and not worry about sharpening, and that includes hocking, splitting rib cages, cutting heads off, and all that shite.

Is it necessary? Nah. I made out just fine with an old timer until 4 years ago. Could I go back to an old timer? Sure. There is no denying this is a better knife for what I do though.

I really like mine. As far as worth the money, that is a tough call. It is well constructed and durable and it is made better than a $20 knife in Academy/Wal Mart. Does it perform knife functions better? I don't know. Mine is razor sharp and I have had zero issues with it.

I have on the Benchmade Stryker automatic knives. I like it but it is too big to be an everyday knife. I would never spend $250 on a knife, but this one was given to me.

I got a whole bunch of knives but my favorite for an every day knife is the SOG Twitch II.

Always had 30 to 60 dollar knives, kershaw or whatever and just got a benchmade about a month ago and will never go back. Love it, worth every penny.

Been carrying mine for over a year. 30 sumthin bucks from Lowes. Great little knife. I use it every day. Opens great and does everything I need it to do. If I loos it, it did not cost alot of $$ liek a Benchmade.

It is a word of mouth marketing deal for people in certain professions. Military, LE, ect see here:

Explaination on Cop Board.

ETA:
Mods I approved a linkback to TigerDroppings in the above linked thread. Not trying to compete with y'all. Just didn't want to re-type the long explanation I made there.

The discount on Benchmade is 25% off MSRP there.

Benchmade makes awesome knives but for an every day EDC I think you get a little more practicality and bang for your buck with Spyderco. Check out the Delica 4 and Endura 4. Both brands make outstanding knives.

Another vote for spyderco. I can't find another brand with an opening assist as good as the large thumb hole they use. I know others have something similar but its just not the same, lol

without a doubt. i am on my 3rd mini griptillian and I can't go back. I dropped the first one in about 2,500 feet of water and the 2nd was lost in an unfortunate series of drunken tailgating events. I now use the mini griptillian as my every day carry and have backup knives for fishing trips, tailgating, etc.

I bought myself the full size griptillian and love it. A little too large to carry around in the pocket daily, but the mini griptillian is perfect for that.

BTW, if Benchmade will resharpen your knife for you for free. All you have to pay is shipping. You don't want to do it yourself and screw up the tempered metal.
