Going in a month and look forward to the atmosphere. Just curious who else has been there for a match?

I've been to the field and gift shop, but they were playing away at Houston the week I was there. But, I'll be planning a trip this fall to visit my brother around a home match...looking forward to hearing about your experience though.

I will definitely share my thoughts, I was trying to plan a trip around the Sounders (going to Portland and Seattle) but couldn't make it work, but this is plan 1 A).

I prefer the State of Washington > Oregon FWIW. Both are badass places though. I just think there is more to do in Washington than Oregon.

I went to the match vs. Chivas USA last August. As far as other pro/college sports I've been to, it was the best game atmosphere I've ever experienced. Better than a Saints game, comparable to an LSU football game. I haven't been to soccer matches anywhere else, so I really can't compare. I'm obviously a bit biased, but I don't think there's a supporter's group that is as vocal and well organized as the Timbers Army.

All games are sold out other than some restricted view seats, though they did release a few more seats to individual matches last season.

I'm going to the match vs. LA in July. I have tickets to the August match vs. Vancouver, as well. I probably won't make it to two matches this season, though.

Are you going as a Sounders fan? If you are, there are designated areas for away supporter's groups. If you buy general admission tix as an away fan, you will be moved to another area of the stadium.

Anything else you'd like to know?

I went to the last game of the season, prior to their move to MLS... It was an incredible experience then, with the jump in leagues and improvements to the stadium, I bet it'll be a great time...

They were on the road when I was out there last fall...

Thanks for the info everyone.

I have been looking on Stubhub for tickets v. Chivas in April, so the away fan stuff will not be an issue, I'll be pulling for the Timbers. I saw on the stadium web page that there are restricted view seats, so I'm going to plan accordingly. I want to be a part of the atmosphere, but not necessarily in the middle of the Army... So what sections are they in?

I can't wait for this...

The TA is basically all of the North End. 101-108 are the serious chanters. I was above them in section 207 last year. The 200 level is still considered Timbers Army, but it's more of a mashup of chanters/spectators. If you buy tickets that are general admission, you'll be in one of those sections.

GA seating is exactly that, so if you get in right before the match, the 101-108 sections will be packed to the gills. 201-208 will have some open spots, especially for 1-2 people. I've always sat in the GA area for soccer matches, so I'm not sure about other areas of the stadium. To be honest, it only holds just under 20k, so there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Other than those restricted view tix, of course.

One of the benefits of seeing a match at Jeld Wen Field is that it's an old renovated stadium that is in a great part of town. There are plenty of great pubs, restaurants, shops, etc. surrounding it. The light rail system will drop you off right in front. The Timbers Army pub is the Bitter End, and to a lesser extent, the Cheerful Bullpen. Hot Lips Pizza is a great spot for a bite. $9 six pack micros on the patio across from the stadium is tough to beat...

Hey I've been to nearly every game since the 2005 season and agree with what ARFF406 above has to say. If you want to get a good place to stand in GA get in at least 1 hr prior to match starting. I think your best bet for atmostphere without being too crazy is section 207, right above where it all begain in 107. My fave place before games is the dive bar Marathon near the stadium on Burnside, great people watching there. Send a message if you are going to make the game and I can stop by and get you a beer!
