Hoping to go to Three Zones; 1.) currently my east zone stompin grounds (marsh) are managed like the rest of east louisiana so there's a lot of conflict between interests in the marsh and the Catahoula, Avoyelles parish, etc. areas. 2.) If we have a downturn in duck populations, 3 zones (or more) gives hunters the max hunting days if you can bounce around in the different zones.

Last year the brilliant minds in a few areas of the east zone wanted to cut a week in first split and put it in second split. They still didn't have ducks in this extra period of December yet the marsh EZ hunters could do nothing but watch piles of ducks under a closed season.

I wish duck season opened in January and closed around Mardi Gras. I know it would never happen, but it would be freaking awesome.

I'm all for a later season. They do need to split anything north of I-10 away from the east and west zones.

How about a season from mid November till the end of January you can hunt 45 days, hunter picks. The printout on the license includes a small calendar and you punch the days you hunt. If you get checked in the woods without the day punched, violation...

Dang that is complicated with a calender but would be cool to see and being able to pick your days.

How about a season where you can hunt mid-november to last weekend in January where you can hunt as many of these days you want, with the exception of one week in December, allowing one to hunt like 67 days if they so choose..... Wait, that's exactly what we have for those who can currently hunt both zones. With the change in dates last year, it allowed some hunters, myself included thankfully, to only have to sit out 1 week the entire season instead of the traditional 2 week gap while both zones are closed. No punch cards required. I wasn't a fan of having to watch east zone marsh infested with birds while closed in late Nov, early Dec, but at least you could also hunt WZ during that closure.

I attend most of these meetings in the summer when the seasons n such are set; lots of different opinions fly around. Like said above, no way to make everyone happy.
