What a piece of crap. I know it's ccol to love Tarantino and all, but jeez.

The dialogue just goes on and on and on and on. And it's not even good dialogue. It's some quirky, witty, unrealistic rambling. I had it DVR'd and I wanted to skip through dialogue so many times, but avoided the temptation. I just don't get what people see in Tarantino's dialogues.

The movie had a 70's feel, intended. The opening credits were in a 70's style font, the girls all wore 70's type clothes. Even the film had streaks and audio issues, as though it were made in 1972 and not stored properly (all intended of course). The music was all late 60's early 70's.

But it's not. A girl in the first part has a cell phone, which looks to be a late 90's model.

SPOILER

All the cars were late 60's early 70's...68 ish Nova, 69 ish Challenger (and what hick in the middle of nowhere has a mint 69 challenger?) 68 ish Mustang, 688 ish Charger. But the last chase seen has all cars from post 2000.

It's like there was an identity crisis. (Oh, the inentional streaks and audio difficulties amazing disappear after about 10-15 minutes in the movie.)

In the last car chase seen, the woman driver had about 20 chances to stop and let the other girl off the hood. But decided to keep hauling arse. And after that traumatic 10 minutes, they laugh about it like it was no big deal.

Tarantino clearly tried to make a 'Vanishing Point' feeling movie, but was all over the place and made a piece of shite. Kurt Russell is going to act like a little bitch when he gets a bullet in the arm? Yet is willing to head on a car going over 50 mph? Which will clearly result in painful injuries. Ummm, okay.

Argh. Don't even get me started on the final scene where they have to drag him out of the car and punch him in the face like 50 times, before he finally falls down. Let's not forget, he's a whiny bitch when injured, yet can withstand 50 knockout punches and stay standing?

The movie has a good rating on all the sites. So people must have really liked it. I just don't see why. I would NOT have been happy paying cash for this.

I don't understand the love it gets, but to each their own..

I actually enjoy good dialogue in my movies, but this dialogue was absolutely boring and overly extended.

quote:

The problem for Tarantino in Death Proof is that the girl talk that occupies so much of the running time is anything but true to the culture 50 years ago. The setting is contempo, but the movie style is period

and also

A tedious, meaninglessly anachronistic project.

Amen. I think he's trying too hard to be campy and artistic, and just doesn't live up to anything he's trying.

I remember the first time I saw this was at a friend's house that rented it. Instead of watching it all, we just fast forwarded through all the dialogue. He had watched it earlier and said he didn't think it really mattered. To this day, I still don't think I've watched all of the movie. If I have I don't remember what the hell those chicks were talking about throughout the movie.

I wonder how it was in the theaters since the running times were cut down to about an hour each. (Planet Terror and Deathproof)

His car was death proof. His arm wasn't.

It was tolerable, but maybe that's because I didn't spend a dime to see it. I'd probably have been pissed if I threw money out to see it too.

Agreed.

Not sure if I've ever finished it. Tried at least 2 or 3 times.

He clearly explains that you are deathproof in his car....IF you're sitting in his seat. The Nova clearly wasn't deathproof, as it didn't survive the head on collision.

Oh, and why is he a free man, after he was clearly witnessed taking home the blonde, who obviously was never seen again.

Oh, and why make a big deal out of him not being a drinker in the first part, only to have him drink whiskey from a bottle in his glove box in the second part?

Garbage.

I could've sworn the dvd releases were extended to full length movies and released separately. Always thought the theatrical versions were shorter.

I liked the first half of the film, up until the first set of girls were killed. After that, I didn't care for it... wayyyy too much dialogue, and I didn't like how the ultra bad-arse Stuntman Mike turned into a total pussy at the end of the movie. Best part of the movie was Butterfly's lapdance.

Brah. Chill out. I bet you would think HG Lewis' films are bad because the acting is amateurish.

I'm chill. Just trying to figure out why people love this movie. And from the responses so far, a lot of other people agree with me.

I thought it was solid. Stuntman Mike creeped me out the entire first half. The chase scene was good, as well, though Mike's character did change.

Are people forgetting this was supposed to be a crappy B-list horror movie? The cell phone and cars were obviously intentional. If you've ever watched these movies, flubs are a part of the genre.

And it's a Tarantino movie, if you don't want to hear dialogue, why'd you even bother?

If you've seen enough of those grindhouse flicks from the 60's and 70's it was a pretty good homage. JMO

This and it needed to be a short...which is what it sort of felt like...but then went on and on.

She was still in the car when he had the accident. That was the point where he pointed out that only HIS seat was deathproof. That's why he drove so violently to kill the her. So it would look like she died in the car crash.

If he was drunk it'd still be something akin to vehicular manslaughter. Since he was stone sober with alibis that he didn't drink, and with the other car full of drunk stoned people, the assumption would fall on them causing the crash which further diverts attention from him.

Also, getting shot hurts. He wanted to numb the pain and clean the wound. It also shows that he is a drinker but carefully plans out his murders/wrecks.
