Why is that area of Coursey a deathtrap for restaurants? Its a high traffic area at the cross of two major roads.

A few guesses...
Traffic is a beast, and those who might eat there want to get home to the Shenandoah area and out of the shite. They certainly don't want to get out in it again to go out to eat. The closer areas aren't people who support nuch nore than fast food.
Price.of real estate is ridiculous and only affords those with deep pockets and advertising to locate there, which usually means fail when it comes to food.

They failed to make the necessary adjustments to the "Chocolate Wonderfall" right up the street.

Uhhh, they've all sucked.
Semonlina's was tearing it up right there in the old days and then they started sucking and have closed all over.
Dingos? Please.
Fire Mountain?
Ryan's?
Golden Corral?
Tell me if they opened a Ruffino's there it wouldn't be slammed?
If the food is good, people would drive to the middle of nowhere on I-55.....huh.

Wasnt Mestizos right around the corner then they moved to Acadian? They were not doing good at that location as they are now.
Ryans and Golden Corral like it are not generally doesnt hurt for business.

Sometimes, when I had a hankering for a salad bar, I'd stop by this place for lunch. What's now a good recommendation in the area for a salad bar? Someone here said that Golden C's is better, but I haven't been there in a decade.

Where Ryan's is now was at first a Ryan's, then switched to Fire Mountain, then back to Ryan's some time ago. It was basically the same BS thing.
The point is, all of those restaurants sucked. Mestizos was where Duang Tawan is now and stayed open. The building is a run down POS and was when Tastee Donuts was in it many moons ago.
If a good restaurant opened in that area, it would do fine. Dingos would fail in the best location on the planet cause it sucked.

I would guess Golden Corral would be about the same and its newer so probably a better selection.
You could drive to Jason's Deli on Siegan. Outside of that next closets is probably Albertsons on Jones Creek.

Worst meal I have had in that area by far was at Walk Ons. And they are not hurting.
Dingos was alright I didnt think it was great nor thought it sucked.

I never ate at the Semolina in Baton Rouge, but I used to eat at the ones in New Orleans all the time and they were really good.
What happened?
Did they change their menu?
same people that own Zea's btw

Semolinas was owned by the Solomons. (Family that built the WWII theatre in NOLA) Pretty sure they dont own Zea's.

Mestizo was a small place back then, but was pretty well packed on most nights. I think that when they outgrew the smaller location, they decided to expand at a location that would get more exposure.
