Could getting the 4 seed/1st round bye hurt LSU?

If LSU gets the 4 seed they would have a day off but likely face Tenn or Miss St (potentially 0 wins in NOLA) vs getting the 5/6 seed and a much better shot at 1 win in NOLA vs USC or UGA? With this team needing all the wins it can get the 5 seed may be more beneficial.

No because the 5 seed would likely mean we lose one of the next 3 which really would hurt us

If we go 9-7 & still get the 4, it could definitely hurt. But I don't think we make the tourney regardless unless we go 10-6.

I believe regardless if we are 4th or 5th seed, that likely 4/5 matchup in quarters will be a play in game.

The best scenario is for us to finish 4th and defeat a team we are competing with for the 4th sec bid. Then we can lose to UK again and be a 10 seed.

A 10 seed?
We'd be right on the line to get into the tournament at that point.

And usually teams that are right on the line, or "on the bubble" that get in end up with somewhere between a 10-13 seed. The very low seeds are for teams that win their conference and our guaranteed a spot regardless of their talent.
I haven't really been following the small conferences, but imagine if Murray State somehow loses in their conference tourney, then whatever crappy team that pulled a crazy upset would get in automatically and take the lower seeds, thus LSU could get a 10.

We're not close to a 10 seed right now and beating the teams we've got left in the regular season won't get us much closer. We're going to need to win the SEC tourney or take out UK on the way to the final to make the NCAA tourney.

Even in that scenario the only way we'd get up to a 10 seed is if we win the SEC tourney.
