there was lots of unrest about the OOS recruiting of RB Lache Seastrunk -- a 5 Star RB from Texas.

So today -- would you rather have 4 Star Kenny Hilliard and 4 Jeremy Hill ... or have 5 Star Lache Seastrunk -- who signed with Oregon... couldn't crack the depth chart as a FR and transferred to Baylor.

His stat sheet says 5'9" 190 pounds.

I guess time will tell --- he may be the next Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor.... but my money is on the guys LSU has on the roster doing far greater things than LS will do at Baylor.

Not sure why this is coming up today... but with the Hill and Hilliard weigh ins being reported -- got me thinking back to that recruiting class and the RBs we we considering.

the best example of why stars don't matter is claiborne AND brockers being projected as TOP 10 draft picks. neither was a top 100 player by any service and neither was rated 4 stars by all services.

Brockers was a 4 star on every site.

Claiborne slipped through the cracks, true enough.

The rankings are typically quite accurate. But as is the case with any type of human evaluation, there will always be mistakes.

brockers was rated a 79 on espn. 79 is a split rating some are 4 star and some are 3 star. it doesn't actually say what brockers was. 2012 guys hunter 79 4- star, j. thomas 79 3- star.

Dumbass. He transfered to Baylor to be closer to home and because of a guy named Willie Lyles.

I'd rather people stop making stupid posts about Star Rankings. Most of the people on this board who follow recruiting know what's up with rankings and everything else. It's when people who only look at recruiting in January and February start saying stupid shite like this does anybody care about star rankings.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Make it stop!

PP7 and Spencer Ware were five stars. So was R. Randle and E. Doucet. Those all seemed to work out ok.

People saying stars dodn't matter are great examples of people that don't understand how the world works frankly. If you stars are meant to convene a 100% accurte predictor of how someone will perform in the future, then you don't get it.

You can sit here all day a name 5*s that didn't pan out and lower rated guys that did. Won't change the fact that higher % of 5* pan out than lower rated guys.

I remember Lemichael James sayin if Lache wanted 2 play then transferin was best for him. The main reason he transfered was because he couldn't crack the line up & deanthony thomas is their next superstar & laches older then him. Being close 2 his family may have been important but if he was in deanthony thomas's shoes he wouldn't have transfered.

In all fairness Thomas was a 5* as well and more highly ranked than Lache.

it is kinda ridiculous to think that stars dont matter cause if they didnt then people wouldnt get so butt hurt about kids like collins or kiel. the truth is we look to the site ratings for guidence and depend on them for most of our info so if you dont think stars matter then dont worry about where our class ranking is. Here is the deal, there are good players within every star rating, whether it be 2* or 5* we should just be happy these kids want to come here and be greatful that our coach is able to make them great.

Hmmm --- just what warranted that response Mr. Smartass?

... as another poster said -- his primary reason for transfer was that he was not going to be "the man" at Oregon.... competition and probably not a lot of PT. Followed by closer to home and third by envolvement with the Willie Lyles investigation of Oregon.

For the record --- let me clarify... I do not intend to say that the recruiting service's rankings of players (stars) are entirely irrelevant... more that they are a guide... but by no means an "exact" science.

My POINT was that --- our fans went into some uproar about highly ranked players we "lost" in recruiting... yet our roster seems to be loaded with more than adequate alternatives.

Suntiger -- your critical post seems to me to be the more useless post here... but whatever, you have your opinion, I have mine.

Solid post.... funny how I don't recall anybody flipping out that LSU didn't sign Forte.... heck, I don't even know if LSU recruited him at all and he was "in our backyard"... LOL

I'd say he did "ok" at Tulane and is doing "fair" -- in the NFL.... LOL

Sure there are examples of where the "experts" missed, but we want as many 4 and 5 star players as we can get. If we had the #1 class in the country, you wouldn't have the need for such weak rationalization.
