Finally have the itch to get one, just curious if anyone has found any smaller ones. Most of the ones i see are fairly heavy and get really heavy once you add 5 jig heads/baits.

I am currently looking for a lighter rig that I could add 2-3 inch baits to.

Also looking at lower cost models just to get my feet wet. Will upgrade down the line if i have success.

So far the best one I have found is: LINK

Just curious if anyone else knows of any alternatives to the original Alabama rig.

I am going with white since i plan on using some 3 inch swim style baits in a shad color.

Not going to use anything special. I have a Medium Heavy bass rod with 20# power pro that i will use. Typically use this one for 3/8's and up size spinner baits. Figure it will do the trick with a lighter umbrella rig. Hoping to get a total weight at about 1 oz.

Damn, someone should invent this for sac-au-lait fishing.

The link on my first post is actually called the "crappie umbrella rig" and is designed for smaller baits.

Check the link, it is a much lighter version at 3/16oz than others on the market.

They have a youtube clip of the baits running and also have various size/color options which is nice.

Yeah i did about a half hour of google searching and that was the lowest cost, lightest rig i could find. Shipping is about $6 unless you spend over $75 so that is a drag but it appears to be a decent rig from the website.

Was just curious if anyone else knew of any other options before i bought this one. Also thought others might be interested since this rig has been the hot subject recently.

I would also like to try the alabama rig out. I would like to use it for specs and then also fresh water fishing. I know nothing about it so any recommendations on where I can buy one? Also, what baits to use on it? Because I know that has to get fairly heavy. Thanks in advance.

Probably not gonna be able to use that crappie rig for bass. The larger bass baits won't be spread apart far enough resulting in the baits hooking each other all the time. I'm thinking ab using my setup on the rig and just downsizing the wire eta: and not put the lead weight

even with the shipping, those are pretty good prices. Thanks for sharing, those have been impossible for me to find locally and Bass Pro wants $15 + shipping for them.

I am not looking to put 5" baits on it just 2-3" grubs or paddle tails. On my local lake the main forage are shad in 2-3" size so I figure i can match the hatch with a rig this size. This would also be a good size bait to target both species.

i'll probably order one of each size to play with.

You guys that are close to BR could get an order up and split the shipping.

Ah thanks Sportsman. I may have to just bite the bullet and purchase one of the more expensive rigs. Untangling baits after every couple of casts will get old pretty quick.

Do you have any suggestions on brands, sites, etc.

I am looking to target bass with 3" swim baits on fairly light jig heads.
