Was being the operative word, he's another in a long line of old fogey's that hung on waaaaaaaaay past his prime. He has been unlistenable for quite some time and been the source of ridicule. A shame when people don't know its time to hang 'em up, maybe that's one lesson people will get from Joe Paterno.

I'm old enough to remember the legendary broadcaster that preceded him, Gene Elston, the original radio voice of the Colt 45s & Astros. Listened to many a game on the radio with Gene doing the play-by-play and Loel Passe doing the color.
