but what happens if a player on a yellow commits another foul where he'll receive a second yellow and a red card but the referee plays a continuation and later in that same run of play, the fouling player scores a goal?

I'm guessing it counts and then he's sent off?

Yeah.

It's also possible to commit a yellow-worthy foul, play on, and commit another, and get yellow-yellow-red after the whistle.

97% sure I've seen that happen in an EPL game before.

If you're gonna get sent off, why not go out with a bang.

Played in a select game once when my team mate got two yellows but the ref forgot to send him off after the second. That was entertaining.

I think that happened in the 2006 World Cup or Euro 2008. (Might have been the Euros....)

Some guy got three yellows in a game.

ETA: Yep... 2006 World Cup

Happened to me but it was in high school. I got one yellow for taping the ball away, then another for an obscure handball. The ref never gave me a red but I didn't even look up because I just assumed I was off. My coach told me to go back in because I never actually received the red so I tried to go back on but the linesman wouldn't let me on. We talked to the head ref after the game and told me I could have come on at some point for however long was left. Long story short, those refs were shiiiiitt
