Well we have 3 Texas recruiters on the staff. 4 if you count Brick.

First impression, this guy is really fast, really elusive, with an extremely quick release and STRONG arm.

He's 1B to Swoopes being 1A on our board this year. TS will get offered this weekend with Barrett probably being offered at our 2nd junior day on 2/25.

Agree with the 1st part but disagree with the 2nd. If Barrett is offered at JD 2 he will accept and that means no Swoopes so unless they aren't as sold on Swoopes as people think, Barrett is just coming in for a "your next on our list" talk. If Texas wants Swoopes then they'll have to go all in with him and then Barrett looks elsewhere until Swoopes decides. Barrett would flip if Swoopes picked someone other than Texas and that is the dilemma he will have with college coaches if they pay attention. I'm not saying Texas doesn't want both Swoopes and Barrett because they'd love to have both but even the biggest Texas homers believe its one or the other, not both. Could I see Barrett still going to Texas even after Swoopes commits? Sure but not the other way around.
After all that I like Barrett more than Swoopes. Swoopes is more naturally talented and has a very high ceiling(Vince Young with a better arm) but also has a lower floor. He may never reach his potential or close to it. Barrett doesn't have near the same ceiling but his floor is much higher. If I were Texas with the questions they have at QB, I'd take Barrett. He's just so much more safe an option.

I think Texas will go all in on Swoopes as well. I think it would be really hard for Texas to sign two tier one quarterbacks this year. I have been told repeatedly that Barrett has the "it" quality. He is a natural leader and is apparently fearless. This is really a crap shoot for Texas, Cody Thomas and Barrett are both good enough to be they guy. If that pick wrong it could hurt them for years to come.
If LSU lands the guy, you will love him.

Rivals has swoopes over 100 spots higher & 247 has barrett about 20 spots higher. Which is more accurate?

Swoopes has more potential but Barrett is very good right now and has a high floor.
Its just whatever you prefer.

I believe Bart Simmons said something along the lines of if Barrett had more size he would be a five star

Good!! About time we compete in Texas. Miles got quite a few players out of Texas when he was at Okie Lite, and I'm surprised we haven't moved more in that direction sooner.
