What do you think the pitch will be to get smith, dobard, and possibly rsj?? Lsu's history w tight ends isn't nearly as productive as other positions... We also have Gordon & Thomas coming in this year.

Will it take a year of mettenberger airing it out??

RSJ isn't a TE.

Since when are TEs overly productive anywhere?

I think the only one you can say is a real threat in the SEC is Orson Charles...

Saw somewhere they were looking to put RSJ at TE.. Either way deangelo was definitely under-utilized and the nfl is moving towards that direction of TE oriented offense. Recruits gotta be looking at which offense to be productive in

Not trying to be debbie downer, just wondering if the recruits will hold off until they see the offense perform and live up #Quick6 Nation that the offense has been hyping up

Deangelo was not underutilized IMO, he just wasn't that good. If we had a legit weapon at TE I think we would use him, and we haven't had one since Richard Dickson and even he wasn't elite.

But, I do agree with you that tight end recruits may want to take a wait and see approach to the offense this year.

It looks like we are heading in that direction. I'm enjoying how we are going after all these young men

In all likelihood, won't be an issue.

Not going to get all three.

Have been told to forget altogether about the services of one for sure.

I don't think anything will ever change Miles philosophy of a power game, 5 RBs and 70/30 run/pass. I have doubts even with Mettenberger next year we'll be a balanced offense. The second Mett throws a INT, Miles will go straight back to being super conservative.

Our TEs are both slightly underutilized and insanely overrated by LSU fans.

I agree but this program also hasn't had this good of an incoming prospect at qb in miles tenure. Perriloux & Shepard don't count!

You have to be able to pick up short yardage on the ground to win championships in the SEC, so having a power running game with 5 available backs is not a bad thing.

IMO, 60/40 run/pass would be a winning combination.

As our offense relates to TE's, I'm not getting bent out of shape if we don't land a bevy of in- state or out-of-state TE prospects. One pass catching and one blocking TE every other class is sufficient for our needs.

And I don't see a significant amount of difference between our two best in-state options to get bent out of shape if we don't land both of them.

Refer to my post above.

I'm not getting into any specifics about it, mostly because it should be a non-issue as it relates to putting a championship caliber team on the field.

From a recruiting perspective, with our recent trend of highly sought prospects leaving for Alabama, I'd rather not address it at this time.

Plenty of time and plenty of threads to come, I'm sure. No sense getting started this soon.

The nfl isn't moving to a te oriented offense. First off the really good te in the nfl are being thrown to by elite nfl qbs. And the elite tes don't grow on trees. Out of the hundreds of NCAA teams not many of them have te catching passes in the nfl.

Way too optimistic we will run it up the middle more than pass attempts

Good tight ends obviously excel w an elite qb, but Iwas referring to the nfl trend of 2 tights formations. Il think 2 tight sets will catch on dramatically after the patriots and 49ers success. The recruits in the OP don't grow on trees.. And I'm sure they aren't looking for a program where they run block every play

Didn't we have that with Russell at QB?

Yea, I think we had a pretty balanced offense but Jamarcus was used way too conservative early in that year. We would've beat the **** out of AU if the gameplan wasn't so conservative...
