Freezer Beef... I'm looking to fill my freezer

Anyone have any experience buying half cows? What is the going rate? How much room will I need? and does anybody want to sell me a half cow?

Also, if I buy a live cow and have it sent to a butcher, what does the butcher normally charge to cut and pack for freezing?

Any info would be great!

A side goes in the 5-$600 range. Don't know about the butcher.

Last one I had butchered was $2100 and netted about 450 pounds of beef. This was 2 years ago and prices have sky rocketed to the point that even though I raise cows its cheaper for me to buy it in the store. Also I can buy the cuts I want.

Yeah thats a real good deal just be aware of the cuts you are going to get. Alotof the actual weight wil be in roasts, rib portions and neck portions. Normally only about 20 steaks total.

I'll buy a cow. You can have the front half that requires the feed.

Jk

Check with Rouchers(think that's the name) in Plaquemine. You may be able to go pick out a half already hanging in the cooler.

$2100 just to cover butchering? Or is that the price of the cow also?

With all the beef, you need to make sure you could fit a 1/2 pound of deer meat in there.

Just sayin

Just pulled the trigger (pun intended) bought a half cow at 299lbs for $3.20/lb. Includes everything cut, wrapped and labeled for the freezer. Angus grass fed organic beef.

Sounds about right. The last two years i have bought 1/4 cow from Iowa and it was right at $500 cut and wrapped. A quarter is enough to last me the wife and two small children one year. Now the steaks go pretty quick since you don't get too many but there is a fair amount of roasts and probably 60 lbs of ground beef. Now this is all dependent on the size cow you buy. Also a quarter does fill about 2/3 of a 4' chest freezer.
