Why not just let Thomas sign now?

I know about his grade situation. But since we are apparently done taking in recruits and are only at 22 LOIs, why not just let him go ahead and sign now and if he doesn't qualify it's still like we signed 22 when time comes to process during the summer. Maybe I am missing something, but it seems like an unnecessary risk for LSU to take being has how we all know too well that a 17/18 year old kid could for some reason suddenly change his mind later on. Why not lock him to his commitment?

He wont change his mind. If he qualifies then he's all LSU

That's a good question.
My guess is that they wanted to have the flexibility for a greyshirt if some of the longshots came through.
But, now, it seems like it wouldn't harm LSU to go ahead and allow him to sign.

Oh, I'm not saying he will flip. It just seems like the safer strategy though would be to lock him in now that you can and are not pushing anyone else out. But like I said, I could be missing something to how this is supposed to work.

I don't see anything wrong with your logic.
But, maybe LSU is using the scholly as incentive for the kid to improve his academics. :idunno:

not Not that I'm one that concerns myself with such things (which is why I'm not actually asking this question ), but if he went ahead and signed would it affect our overall class ranking? And if so will that ranking be adjusted again after today to reflect subsequent signees?
