Headed to New Orleans for the weekend. I saw a segment on the travel channel raving about the fried chicken. The reviews online seem split between incredible and overrated. What do you guys think?

Went last week. The breading/skin is incredible, but it did seem like there was way more breading that meat.

The Lima beans, however, are to die for.

If you want fried chicken only, go to McHardy's. No dine in though.

Well when you're rated that high it's pretty tough not to be overrated

It's fried chicken

Went there once. The crust on the chicken was almost burnt, bitter, and very greasy. Amazingly overrated chicken.

Best fried chicken ever is still Bernie's Broasted Chicken in Columbia SC.... across from Williams Bryce Stadium. Next time LSU plays there do yourself a favor and pop in for something delicious.

eta: If you want really good fried chicken in New Orleans go to Fiorella's in the French Quarter.

Five of the six times I've been it was damn good. The one that wasn't the breading was very dark and bitter, as if cooked in old grease. The sides are consistent but nothing special. However the corn bread of all things is very inconsistent.

It's good, but nowhere near the best. Fiorella's is good but way too inconsistent (sometimes it's spot-on, other times it's pitiful). McHardy's on Broad is the best in New Orleans. Best fried wings are at Manchu on N. Caiborne) and Little Chinatown in Kenner.

FWIW, best chicken (by far, IMO) is Gus's in Memphis... Prince's in Nashville and Uncle Lou's (also in Memphis - Guy Fieri's favorite) are also great.

It's always been good, but there are better places in New Orleans.

My two "best" spots:

1. The Stockyard Cafe, Wednesdays only in Baton Rouge.

2. Champy's Fried Chicken in Chattanooga, TN.

I've been there multiple times for the fried chicken, as well as their fried catfish, which is among the best.

Everybody should try McKenzie's Chicken-in-a-Box. It's in an old McKenzie's on Frenchman near Gentilly Blvd and Elysian Fields in N.O.

The chicken is HUGE and the crust is damn good, though it makes your stomach churn after a while. Kind of over priced feeling for chicken, but you get 3 pieces and a side for $10.
