I go to fresh pickens all the time and always see them, but today I was compelled to buy dried peppers. They smell fabulous but I have no idea what to do with them. Any ideas?

put them in an etoufee or gumbo

Blend it into a powder and make chili powder?
One of my old friends used to make a really great enchilada sauce with dried chilis. Pretty sure he would rehydrate them and blend

Boil them, then blend them for sauces or salsas.

I use them to make salsa. toast 3 or so in skillet then boil/simmer for 30 minutes in 3 -4 cups of water. Toss out the peppers and use the broth/ water in the salsa mixed with roma tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro, tomatillos, oregano.
I also put them in my stock while cooking it down. Gives the stock a spiciness. Only do this if you are using stock for something spicy...i.e. gumbo, etouffe, court boullion.

Freeze em. Get one out when you cook some gumbo, stew or pot roast. Chop em up and put em in bean soup or similar.
