Okay, so I just got some surround sound setup in my new place and wanted to find a mindless blood bath type movie to watch. I went with the new Conan movie. It was exactly what I hoped it would be...kinda cheesy with a lot of killing and blood everywhere. It's one I'd definitely buy just to have a nice mindless action flick to watch every now and then. Thought I'd stroll on over here to the Movie/TV board and see what everyone else thought of it. I don't remember a thing about the Ahnold version of Conan, so I'm not really trying to compare it to that at all.

I went into it with low expectations, and as a fan of the previous version.

I think this movie has similar problems to the recent "Clash of the Titans" remake: too great of a reliance on CGI action and sets, dull secondary characters, bad dialogue and thin story.

What worked for me was Jason Mamoa, of all things. I thought I would have a problem with him as Conan. I didn't. I liked him as Conan. I just think he could have been given more to say and do.

I think I would have liked this movie more if it had reached high, and fell short. The problem is it didn't reach high. It felt half-assed.

And the music... come on, man! How could you not use the classic Conan theme? Awful.

Overall two out of four stars from me. But only because Conan is an inherently interesting character, and Mamoa is an interesting actor.
