What are people expecting with this place? It's nice to see the location back in use, but will it be the same "Superior" experience in that it will have a good atmosphere with average food?

Place is going to be a shite show during Mardi Gras. Like you said, I expect it to be average food with a nice atmosphere.
From their Facebook page it appears they had a pre-opening the other day and most people wrote that they really enjoyed the food. I don't know how valid these reviews are since I would assume anyone involved with the preopening would have good things to say.

I bet the prices don't add up to the food quality. They spent a fortune on that place so I bet you get high prices with average serviceable food.

rode by the other night, might be a little tacky for the avenue but the place looks good

That's what I predict as well. Superior is a ripoff for mediocre Mexican food and I don't see much of a difference from that

I was at the pre opening and it was very good. Nice drinks, cool bar and the food was really done well. Didn't pay attention to prices so I can't comment on that but I believe they will fit in very well.

Yeah I rode by on Friday night and the place was packed. I'm also expecting the food to be overpriced and I'm wondering what exactly they're going to have on the menu that reflects a "cafe-style eatery" which is what I've seen described on their Facebook page.

As bad as Superior makes Mexican food, I expect Superior to make even worse seafood.
A Shreveport seafood chain opening on the corner of Napoleon and St. Charles is like a McDonald's opening across from Stalin's office in the Kremlin.

I went as well and had very low expectations because like most of you I thought, great a "Superior" seafood place. But since it was free I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. The food was really good.
Between our table we split the oyster rockefeller, oyster bienville, mussels, and marinated crab claws for an appetizer. Both oyster dishes were great. I think they had 6 or 7 large oysters per plate. The marinated crab claws were ok. The crab claws were large, and the crab meat tasted great, but I wasn't a huge fan of the marinade they used. The mussels were good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the red sauce/broth that they came in. The mussels were well cooked and tasted fresh. With the red sauce I was hoping it would be something like the mussels from Patois(they have some prepared with a red sauce/broth), but I guess that may have been too high of hopes.
Entrees ordered were the flounder dish, seared scallops, the grilled red fish dish, and a steak. I had the flounder, but sampled all the others. The flounder came with a lemon caper sauce and crab meat on top. I enjoyed it a good bit. What I like is that the taste of the flounder was the cornerstone of the flavors and everything just complimented it. I found this to be true with most of the seafood dishes. The portion was two large fillets of fish. Again the portions of all dishes was above average. The next thing that stood out was that the steak was damn good here. They claimed it to be prime, and my girlfriends dad got it medium rare. It came out more medium, but had a great flavor, and wasn't smoothered in butter. I also tasted the seared scallops, again pretty good flavor and cooked correctly. I really think they are using fresh produce, but I don't claim to be an expert.
They offered four different desserts, so since we had four people we got one of each. The chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was good but basic. The bread pudding was very average and dense. The carrot cake was greasy and had way too much icing on top. The creme brulee was good and lighter then you would think.
All in all I was really surprised and glad that it seems they are trying to put out a good product. The inside is nice and made to look like an old school New Orleans place. The drinks were above average. Though it was free the bill would have came to around $300 I think for four people (2-3 drinks a person). The restaurant puts itself in a awkward market position though. Even though I enjoyed the food, I don't think I would ever go there under my assertion. I would choose places like Patois, Boucherie, Le Crepe, etc... for the same price point or better. Your going to get the people seeking good food that will avoid it because of its name (I would not have stepped foot in here had I not been invited to the soft opening), but it will turn away Superior Grill fans because of the price and more upscale feel it has. I will be curious to see if it can or will keep up its quality and to see if it can survive giving its reputation. It is however a great location.

Not quite sure what to expect. I drive past it on a regular basis, and it's been worked on for the longest time so I hope for their sake it's good.

I remember living in the city since the mid 90s and never once setting foot in the place.
I'm not saying I won't try the Superior place out, though.

Menu looks pretty expensive and until I hear some good to excellent reviews I wouldn't step foot in there. To many better options in the area.
I do echo the previous poster that it will be a shite show during Mardi Gras.

Went last night and had the ahi tuna salad. The menu description pretty much matches a salad at Houston's which I haven't tried, but the Superior salad is 1.50 cheaper. It was ok, everything seemed fresh, but the tuna was way overdone.
It is a pretty loud place but I did enjoy the atmosphere. I see coming here more for happy hour (half off draft beer, 2 for 1 frozen mojitos, half off carafes of house wine from 4-6 everyday) than for a meal though.
